[QUOTE=TikiLou;17445564]This may be a stupid question, but for those of you who get your cars via PEC in Atlanta or L.A. but don't live in those states, do you / did you have any concerns about the safety of your cars when staying at hotels overnight on the way home?
What are peoples' recommendations in such situations? Do you only stay at nicer hotels that have parking garages so that your new car isn't sitting in the parking lot of some motel overnight, or...?[/QUOTE
I've driven across the country multiple times in my Porsches without a problem. Southern Route, Northern Route, Driving cross-country is my favorite thing to do. Just make sure you have the Porsche Road Side Asst Phone Number handy just in case. This is the USA good grief.

Stay at really nice hotels... not for the car... but for you (only live once)! As an added bonus the kids parking your car will fight over who gets to valet it and smile all the while - tip them well! Have a great trip and dont think about anything else.

This sums it up nicely, enjoy your new toy in good health.
You're overthinking things and it just dilutes your attention from why you plonk down the money to begin with = The amazing driving experience and ownership.

I bought my car at a dealer in Cincinnati and stayed at a hotel down town. I walked out in the morning to a very nice note on my windshield that said ‘nicely specced car’.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Your point about ignoring the media is generally a good one but your chart (which ends in 2019) does not disprove the claim that crime is way up in 2021. It may or may not be. The stats I have seen suggest that in many large cities, property and violent crime IS up after (as you noted) several years of decline. Here is the NYT on May 7 of this year, for example "Like many other American cities, Atlanta is struggling with a spike in violent crime, including a 58 percent increase in homicides last year"
To the OP I agree with everyone else. Be smart and cautious but get out there and drive and see this amazing country.

I don't want to get into a political discussion but here in Atlanta violent crime is up 50% and arrests are down 40% in 2021. We have had 58 people murdered so far this year, usually two or three a night. There are a lot of shootings lately, mostly around the hookah lounges and Black night clubs late at night. If you come to PEC the area around the PNA HQ is safe and there is a hotel across the street. The areas around the airport are generally not good. Areas to avoid at night are Buckhead Village, Pharr Road, Piedmont Road down to Cheshire Bridge Road, Downtown Atlanta, the areas between downtown and the airport and the Old 4th Ward. There have been a few shootings on the freeways lately, mostly people shooting at each other late at night after leaving clubs and a couple of rappers who were run off the road and robbed. Street racing is pretty bad at night around the City, do not get involved with your new Porsche as they just changed the law here so they can take your car if you are involved.

increase the dosage on your anti-paranoia meds ... or transport it in a covered car transporter particularly now you have alerted the int'l crime syndicates of your travel plans

The only problem I've encountered touring in Brand New Pcars around our country is the occasional road hazard like a tire or related detritus often related to commercial truck traffic. Travel by day, stay at reputable chain hotels and you will be fine. Apparently stay away from the airport. Where I live in Riverside CA, one risks being shot at on the 91 FWY but I think it's better out in the country. "FLYOVER" country is beautiful. Took my 981 Spyder to Fairmount Indiana lol.

There is a difference between getting sucked into the vortex of negativity and being intelligent, vigilant, and situationally aware.
It wouldn't concern me to drive cross country, even in a new car. Select hotels and locations in the right areas. Fill up at no less than half a tank Ensure your night driving is through more populated areas/interstates. Check-in with family or friends. Write their numbers down if you don't have them memorized. Don't rely on your phones address book.
I would split my cash and credit cards between wallet, small luggage, large luggage, and hidden on my person. I would keep credit cards separated and in different locations. Don't use the room safe in hotel rooms.
Be conscience of who is behind you and for how long. Be aware when exiting the car. Clear the area, look for hot spots where people can hide or approach from your blind side.
These are all things I do all of the time. Especially when traveling. Lost luggage, hotel room theft, etc..
Being vigilant, being alert, being prepared - these are things that should be practiced. I don't avoid living. I don't believe bad things are going to happen. I do plan and practice common sense. Things can, and do, happen.
Most of all, enjoy the journey and enjoy the new car. .
