Smile Ordering Cayman GTS 4.0 tomorrow

Hello- after five 911’s I am ordering a GTS 4.0 tomorrow at age 67. Any suggestions ? I have configured what I think I want but am keeping an open mind, interested to hear the dealer rep’s ideas.

Congratulations you are getting a great car. Fortunately you don’t need a lot of options to enjoy the driving experience.

If you have had many 911s before just know the 14 way seats IMO seem to be narrower at the top in the cayman platform than the 911. They were very uncomfortable for me in my first Cayman (but felt fine in my 991.1 911). I’m glad I stuck with the standard 2 way sports seats plus in my GTS - they are extremely comfortable.

Don’t really need Nav if you use apple carplay.

The standard suspension that comes with the car is fantastic (SPASM).

What color and what wheels are you going to
spec? Manual or pdk?

Don't take this the wrong way but other than the net in the passenger wheel well and smoker's kit I would never recommend anything, nor would I ask...it will be YOUR car!

I’d recommend the premium package.

Two things that seemed almost universal in my research; smokers package and bose. I did both, added the PDLS+ and pretty much called it a day. But that didn’t stop me from configurating it 200 times lol. Oh, and congratulations!

PDK, either white or chalk, standard black wheels. Great advice on the 2 ways, thank you. I wasn’t expecting an allocation but the dealer called and had unexpectedly received one. So, I wasn’t really prepared with all my choices. Will be a very basic build though.

The GTS doesn't offer the narrow 14-way seats. The 2-way (standard) and 18-way on offer for the GTS are basically the same wider (Sport Plus) seat with the only difference being the motors/adjustments.

As others have indicated, it's a terrific car with no options. But, since you asked...
  • The basic sound system is almost universally regarded as rubbish. Most get Bose, some get Burmester, but remember these cars are loud.
  • SPASM is 20 mm lower than in the Base and S models. You decide if that is too low. You have the option of PASM, 10 mm higher than SPASM.
  • Leather is worth it to some. At least get something to replace the plastic dash and door trim - leather, aluminum, carbon or paint.
  • Seats - 2 way SS+ are great. If the car will have multiple drivers, consider 14 or 18 ways to get the memory.
  • Look at the premium package but don't get it unless you want enough of it to save money over a la carte.
  • Consider a manual. Mine is the first stick I have driven in 20 years and I love it. I am also 67.
  • Wheels - if you don't like the blacked out look, the included ones are nice in silver or satin platinum. Silver is free.
Enjoy.

Ditto on the smoker's kit and Bose. This is my fourth Cayman and it's the best one yet, imo. Hard to make a bad choice. If you have back issues, as I do, you might consider the 18-way seats with lumbar and greater ability to find the best supporting position. Also, the Alcantara (Race-Tex) adds some nice visual and textural contrast when coupled with leather, but it can be a pita to keep clean on the steering wheel and shifter. Congratulations!

Sorry maybe a stupid question, but does the map Navi appears in the instrument cluster if you use Apple CarPlay for navigation? Or it have to be the OEM navigation

Great car. My only non 911 also. My 40th 911 is almost too refined compared to my other 911’s so you probably know my opinions of the current non GT 911’s.

Agree with 2 way sport seats, premium pkg, PDLS+, SPASM & no Nav. Bose is enough for me because the car is more what I’m interested in listening to. I have leather steering wheel & shift ****. Feels great & not as worried about upkeep.

I’m a MT Porsche guy only so my opinion is prejudiced. I don’t find the 6MT ratios to be too long.

Enjoy your build.
