I don't plan to track my car.
Didn't want the rear wing although I wish I could've gotten all of the other body style bits on the GTS that comes on the GT4.
GTS is much cheaper than GT4.

  • The same engine - power reduced slightly, torque the same
  • Multiple drive modes
  • Twenty grand cheaper
The GTS also has more exterior colours available, although that didn't matter to me as I am a Guard's Red aficionado.

For me it was a no-brainer, YRMV.
Agree 100%. I will add the GTS will have less stoplight race challenges from all the boy racers/ricers out there!

I was three weeks from having choices on my GT4 lock last year, before cancelling, in favor of a yet a be received 4.0 CGTS. My difference in total MSRP is only several grand.

More exterior and interior colors,
More seat selections, & memory,
No large rear wing...a DD,
More comfortable suspension with a bit more clearance,
Variety of drive modes,
Same torque,
Tinkered with more options.

Except for the added wait, an easy switch for me.

I switched my allocation to the Boxster GTS 4.0 6M that I love. Fast as my GT4 but sounds better, particularly with the top down. Not really a solution to most of the folk here, but if you asked me, I think the best answer is to own both. GTS 4.0 as a DD and GT4 for car events and track days. If one's in the shop, I still have mid-engined Porsche to drive. Not half bad.

Since you have driven both, aside from the engine change between the 981 and 982 platform, is the ride, compliance, and ambient noise much different between the two cars? Could you daily the gt4? Have fun on track days with the GTS? Which do you prefer for backroads?

Then I must ask, why the GTS and not the base Cayman or Cayman S?

Edit: Nevermind, I googled it and realized the GTS has much more power and a different engine than the base. Disregard.

Ventilated Seats. I need them for my sweaty back during the hot summer months where I live. If the GT4 had them, I would have bought it instead.

I agree with many of the previous posts about the GTS being more suitable as a daily driver. My other car is a GT3 Touring, which I find too low (despite front axle lift) and harsh for our lousy roads. I specified the -10 mm suspension option on the GTS (as opposed to the standard -20, which is still higher than a GT4), and can now drive through the dips in my neighborhood without slowing to a crawl or scraping. I also find the MIchelin 4S tires to be better in cold and/or wet weather than the Cup2s that are on my GT3 (and the GT4). I do not take either of these cars on the track (I race a Spec Racer Ford), and I find the GTS to be more than capable on the street. As for the rear wing, I believe that whatever you may loose on the track is more than made up for by not attracting undue attention on the street.

I maybe a weird one or maybe I am having mid life crisis as a in-mature 50 yr old kid, I kind of love the wing. The wing really complete the style of the car, maybe since I am a kid I always want to have a whale tail 911. Well, I am a person that also love the style on typeR, EVO, STi, GTR...etc and hate the new M3/M4 or any modern BMW style.

I will always take the winged version... It's kinda why I'm pretty glad I ended up with a GT4 instead. Hell I wanted the Civic Type R before I had a Camaro

Went with GT4 as not a DD for me. I will only do a few track days a year...maybe. I just really like the looks of the GT4, lowered mine 10mm from stock (looks so mean!) and the wing doesn't bother me (in fact I raised mine) although my wife says it is silly...so I let her choose the colour. Win-win. My first P car, and since I was able to get a GT4 allocation (no shot at a GT3) i figured why not? Car is awesome, but I'm sure I would have liked a GTS as well if I couldn't get a GT. To each their own.

The suspension is really not that harsh/stiff as many eluded to. It’s on par with my 997.2 with SPASM and ground clearance is better than expected too. Personally I preferred the aggressive styling of GT4, and yes that wing is a must.

I ruled out the GTS (and S) as being for me a long time ago, but why it was a factor to consider was performance isn’t that much different, the interior trim options (alcantara, barf…) look better.

I wish the GT4 had an alcantara delete option on everything.

This is the opposite direction of the posting title, I briefly looked at the GTS, but quickly dismissed it for the following reasons...

From an aesthetics standpoint, it just looks incomplete. Too much fender gap and the wheels sit too far tucked in. The GT4, on the other hand looks proper and has the correct proportions.

Next is the performance, currently in a SS 1LE (which punches above its weight class as far as limits and handling) and I do not want to take a step down in handling performance. The GT4 (in manual form) is pretty evenly matched to the SS 1LE in the handling and lap times department, and the PDK version will improve on that even more. The GTS is more of a GT when compared to the GT4.

As someone else motioned though, I do wish there was a full leather package for the GT4, I am not a big Alcantara fan. Luckily , you can at least option the GT4 with leather steering wheel and gear shifter.
