Radar Detector Recommendations?

Uniden R7, just plug it in and its good to go. Only thing I changed was turning off K band as it talks a lot with that on. It will sniff Ka band a mile off, sometimes its actually how annoying long the range is because someone can be a 2 miles down the road and its pinging!

V1 gen 2. Been using Mike's products since my first Porsche in '83, have 3 V1's now, just traded one on the gen 2 model. I use the SAVVY option which makes installation a breeze, plugs into the OBDII port and hang it yonder the mirror with a Blend mount.

I have the Uniden R7 and have had good luck with it so far. The range ion K and KA bands s great. Today, I ran into a CHP that was using Laser, and as expected, there was little to no warning. Fortunately I was taking it easy.

Avoid the Fishing Holes...
And if you are 40kms/25MPH over (easy to do) then you risk being impounded for up to 60 days. It's gotten really serious.
So that leaves us with
1. WAZE to alert you of a potential threat that has been there and tagged by a WAZER and may still be there. If you are the first one out, then there may be nothing tagged. It works very good on busy days where there are lots of WAZERS.
2. A good long-range radar detector...
3. Good local knowledge of the overpasses and classic "fishing holes"
This still does not prevent you from being paced.
It's a real game of cat and mouse!

www.vortexradar.com is your friend here and he is a local Seattle guy. I just picked up an Escort Redline 360c but it could be a stop gap until the Radenso Theia comes out depending on how their marketing claims translate to the real world. Also likely to add laser jamming from ALP soon. Well...as soon as I get the car which could be a while now

I would suggest that you go to youtube and watch some of the posts by Vortex. He does a great job of technically reviewing the detectors. Also, he has a great website that has his reviews and setup guides for each detector. I spent numerous hours looking at his posts, but each individual post are short reads so not terrible to take in small chunks. I would say based on all his reviews you be looking at the Redline 360C, Valentine V1G2, or the Uniden R7. If you watch his reviews he will help you making your decision on which detector will suit your needs. As I have learned there is more to selecting a detector then just range. Features and how and where you drive is a big factor. Hope this helps. Enjoy that car, I have a Spyder on order hope to see it in August.

That's the real issue we have - police on the overpasses with DragonEye instant-on laser, hitting you from behind. It's deadly and by the time you've been hit it, and if you're on the gas pedal a bit, it's all over. It seems the only thing that works is jammers and in many states/provinces, these are illegal. And if you are 40kms/25MPH over (easy to do) then you risk being impounded for up to 60 days. It's gotten really serious.

Everyone I know that uses a detector also has multiple tickets and points on their licenses.
In this pic, friend from work (driving his Corvette with his high tech detector) was leading a pack of us out of his own part of town (heading for some twisties) and got nabbed with radar.
The cop was tucked-in to a little turn off on the road ..his own little "fishing hole" (I like that term). It happened in an instant.
This is what has kept me ticket free ..so far (which I kind of can't believe).
- LOOK - 360 degree awareness around the car. Know how to spot 'em in the rear view ..know what the front end of their cars look like ..look for the reflection off lenses in the front grill.
More and more I'm concerned about under-cover cars ..good thing they don't typically pursue traffic violations. - LISTEN - do you hear any sirens? ..anything else that should give you pause? ..anyone else driving crazy / aggressive? (this means no loud music in car). => lift off and remain calm.
- KNOW THE ROAD - Know the road you're on. No aggressive driving on an unknown roads. => lift off and remain calm.
- KNOW WHERE THEY HIDE (on the road you know) - know they're fishing holes. I've literally jammed from one fishing hole to the next without any problems. They have to be somewhat strategic about where they position themselves.
- CALM DOWN IN TRAFFIC - any amount of traffic means => lift off and remain calm.
- ONLY GO WHEN ROAD IS WIDE OPEN - no cars in front of you and all checks above pass the test. => Go man go! Let her rip! Have a blast!
- ONLY RESPOND TO WORTHY CHALLENGERS - Don't race the kid in the Honda Civic or the Kia Optima (for some reason the Kia Optima guys think they present a challenge, it's weird) and Mustangs (they're always sliding off the road in a fit).
It seems the guys that rely on their detectors drive aggressively ALL OF THE TIME.
I try and remain calm and look for those opportunities to open up when its safe, then it's game on..
For a long while I kept a sign on the dashboard of the Viper that said "Remain Calm".
