I must admit that it's bascially the engine that motivated me to put down a deposit to try to get an allocation...I 've had 2 981S's before and it sounds like the 4.0 will feel like the upgrade I'm after

Like you, I was first attracted by the GT4 4.0 NA engine when it first came out. I was further enamored by the style and aesthetics. Finally, the chalk color totally put it over the top for me. As mentioned, my previous 2014 981S NA flat six was spec’d at 325 HP. I had it for six years and loved it. Obviously the GT4 is in a complete different class. You won’t be disappointed!!

IIRC, the 3.4l in the S was rated at 315HP, the 4.0l is 414HP, with over 100HP and the increased torque this difference is undeniable.
I had a 2013 S and a 2016 GTS before my Spyder, no doubt about the power difference the Spyder or the GT4 have over these cars, much stronger even down low, passing through 4K RPM and heading up, incredible!

Very nice!
Does the manual require an oil change that early?
Thanks!

The manual indicates the first oil/filter change at first service which is 10,000 miles or one year. I’m “old school” and believe in an oil/filter change after break-in. This question generates a lot of opinions. My opinion is that it doesn’t hurt anything and for me it didn’t cost anything as I negotiated it up front. Still get the free first service at 10k.

Can one of you compare the GT4 or Spyder to the GTS 4.0 PDK? I have a 2013 Boxster S PDK that has all the GTS options except alcantara and the few extra HP. I have an added third radiator and added adjustable LCAs. I don't like the look or function of the Spyder convertible roof. If I ordered a Boxster 4.0 GTS I'd probably add adjustable LCAs. You can make a GTS more expensive than a GT4 or Spyder if you get carried away with options.

Couldn't agree more. I had the 2015 Cayman S and the power difference is definitely noticeable. Once you get past 4K RPM, this 4.0 engine is a different beast compared to the 3.4L. And tbh, there is no excuse for being under 4K RPM unless you are cruising on the freeway in 6th. I do miss the crackles and burbles on down shifts.
