Why the break in? Your experience?

What is the purpose of break in? I have and been told everything from "There is no break in. It's a Porsche. Warranty doesnt change. Just drive it!" Quote from my SA.
To 500 miles, 1000 miles, 2000 miles.
On my Macan S i waited 500 miles until my first launch control. I have 41 miles on my Spyder and eying 500 miles for break in. What is the reason for the break in, in 2021? After all the first service isnt until 10,000 miles.
What are you thoughts and experience on break in? how many miles do you support for break in? Specifically for GT4's and Spyders.

The main purpose of the factory break-in guidelines is to give armchair quarterbacks something to argue about on the internet while they are looking at their car instead of driving it.
Don't want it dirty, don't want to damage the ppf, don't want to add miles, don't want brake dust, don't want creases in the seat, don't want to chip the windshield, don't want wear on the floormats, so I'll argue on the web instead.

Always a hot topic with these cars. I will be picking my Cayman GTS in Atlanta in a couple of months and plan on following the published guidance (<4,000 rpm for 2,000 miles) and it is supported with good source information in this article: https://yel.pca.org/porsche-engine-break-in/

The fact that we're still arguing about this a century and a half after the ICE was invented shows me that if it matters, it certainly isn't by a whole lot. Generally, engines just seem to... work... regardless of which break-in religion the owner subscribes to.

Folks doing burn outs on day 1 and then making warranty claims are why C8 owners can’t have nice things for 500 miles.

So, yes, break in is real.

Actually yes, it is. Type "break in" in the search dropdown and the results are worthless. If you don't know the secret handshake for searching on this platform it's a joke.
If you really want to find something go to google.com and type in this "site:rennlist.com GT4 break in"

I am "trying" to keep it at or below 4,000 rpm for the first 1,000 miles. I'm halfway there. Once past 1,000 miles, I plan to let her rip. I'll probably get an oil change at 2,000 miles. Just because. This is purely my opinion and based solely on my gut.

didn't follow rules stated on the owners manual
couldn't wait to go past 4k rpm too long so after a week of local streets driving at night for about 600 miles, WOT all the way to 8k happened![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
i think local street driving is better than highway since you get to vary load on rev range more than constant cruising at 2.5-3k rpms while racking up miles.
what made a lot of difference in feel though, was an oil change at around 2k miles.
engine felt lot smoother running throughout the rev range after the oil change.
