Update: Heard back from the dealer. Snapped shifter cable. Going to replace both and should be ready to go tomorrow evening. Glad it wasn’t anything internal with the transmission.

Interesting. I know that was a recurring problem on the 987. My 981 has seemed immune. Sad that it’s happening to 982s. Not a big deal when the car is under warranty but I’m betting it’s expensive to pay for it out of pocket.
I might do that if I end up keeping the car much longer. I didn’t think I would consider the new GT3 but may have the inside track on an allocation so we’ll see. If I get my allocation, I’ll likely sell the GT4 soon. This after I swore the GT3 was too much car and proposed that the GT4 was the perfect weekend toy. The allure of the GT3 is a powerful force!

tell me about it! ... I'm agonizing over my 991.2 vs 992 GT3!!!
I think if my Spyder's cables snapped, I would probably go the numeric route if the dealer would install them instead of OEM

I’m not gonna sweat it. If I get the new GT3 allocation, I’ll take it. If not, I’ll more than likely find a reasonable spec’d 991.2 and not think twice about it. If allocations get any easier to get next year, I’ll jump on it then instead. As for the idea of speccing my own car at that price point. I agree that it would be ideal but I also know that there will still be options that I regret getting and some that I should have gotten but didn’t. With that said, I honestly don’t really care too much about most of the options on a GT3 because all I want to do is drive the hell out of it and there aren’t too many options that impact the actual driving experience or performance of the car in my amateur hands. After 2-3 drives I highly doubt I’ll care about which headlights it has or that the stitching doesn’t match the brake calipers.

If you get a 992 allocation, you *MUST* do European Delivery ... and I doubt there will be too many 992's dealer specced sitting on lots anytime soon ...

So much for a quick fix. No parts domestically so the car will be down 10-14 days unless I opt to snag some aftermarket cables.
So as I'm accelerating on a freeway on ramp shifting from 2-3 at higher RPM just below redline and 3rd failed to engage. I was able to shift to 4th but then not 5th. All of the gears on the top of the stick would not engage. After nursing it to the dealer using even gears and subsequently searching the always reliable internet it looks like this is a somewhat common problem with Porsche manual transmissions. There is a plastic clip that connects the shifter cable to the transmission that can come loose or fail which results in this problem. The dealer reattached the plastic clip and solved the problem, but the main reason I am posting this is to inform others that apparently there is a TI (Porsche service advisory); this is a known issue to Porsche and the fix is to use zip ties (!) to strengthen the connection, which the dealer did but only after I specifically asked for it. I have about 7,500 miles on the clock and there were no warning signs, it shifted perfectly up until that missed 2-3 shift. And somewhat surprisingly the problem did not trigger any dashboard warnings.
Can you post a link to the service advisory if you have it?
My car is booked in next week for the 1-2 grind diagnosis where Porsche Canada has requested the gear oil be drained and inspected... might as well have them make this fix while its in,
A better fix is to buy and install the Numeric Racing (or similar) aftermarket shifter cables (and I can also recco the short shift kit as well).
Zip ties?? This isn't a Kia.
Agreed that makes more sense but I just wanted to get the car rolling in the short term. And no I don’t have a copy of the advisory and I’m not sure whether or not the dealer would do it without the problem manifesting.
Lost all my odd gears, downshifting from 4th gear to 3rd gear.
After I downshifted, applied gas pedal and I was in neutral... Impossible to engage 3rd.
I then downshifted again to 2nd and it was OK.
I had lost Reverse, 1st, 3rd & 5th.
Ended up calling Service at my dealer, I was far from home. He searched and got back to me with a tech bulletin (great service). Shifter cable was out of his socket... just like that.
I ended up removing rear diffuser myself, center section and re-attaching the cable + Ty-Raps.
DIY job, all good now. Porsche dont have a permanent fix yet.
