Lost 1st, 3rd and 5th gears
As the title states, was just out on a drive and lost 1st, 3rd and 5th in my ‘20 GT4 MT. Other gears work but not smoothly. Managed to get home but am pretty bummed. 3,300 miles, never tracked but driven decently hard on back roads. No signs prior, just went out while downshifting to 3rd. Just figured out that reverse is out as well. I’m sure the linkage or cable is busted. Will report back.

Lost all Odd gears, manual tranny
Just to share my experience, might help others...
Lost all my odd gears, downshifting from 4th gear to 3rd gear.
After I downshifted, applied gas pedal and I was in neutral... Impossible to engage 3rd.
I then downshifted again to 2nd and it was OK.
I had lost Reverse, 1st, 3rd & 5th.
Ended up calling Service at my dealer, I was far from home. He searched and got back to me with a tech bulletin (great service). Shifter cable was out of his socket... just like that.
I ended up removing rear diffuser myself, center section and re-attaching the cable + Ty-Raps.
DIY job, all good now. Porsche dont have a permanent fix yet.
FWIW

6MT or PDK? Anything to hint that something was wrong or did it just go?

Someone else had a similar issue at a track day. Was a simple fix at the dealer. Do please follow up.

Sorry I'm a noob at Manual trans. This is my first that I've actually owned, however I can drive it extremely well. How do you know if a gear went out? I only ask because when I put my car in reverse it doesn't show R lit up on the dash. Same with 1st gear until I get up to speed, not sure if that's normal but every other gear shows the number in the dash

Happened to me on my 2020 Spyder. It was a simple fix as the cable was not properly seated from factory. I still understand the frustration however. Hope it’s the same minor issue I had. Scared the crap out of me though.
take care.

The 987 had an issue with shift cables on the MT. There were two that ran from the shifter around the engine to the gearbox. One would break with an audible pop and shifting would be difficult or impossible though you could get into a couple of gears. Sounds similar to what you have. Didn’t know the 718 had the problem.

The car would literally would not go into gear. Push the lever into first and it immediately returned to the neutral position.

I had just downshifted into 3rd at a fairly high rate of speed entering a long sweeping turn so you can imagine my surprise when the damn shifter snapped into neutral and there was nothing. It was definitely a holy sh#t moment.

The same thing happened to me at the track in my GT4. It was the shift cables had come loose. The car sat at the dealer for two weeks waiting for replacement parts from Germany.

I've been in a 718 GT4 that this happened to on track also - exactly this.. lost all Odd gears and Reverse.
Linkage had popped on the gearbox side.
