Since I need to bring the car in to the dealer for a little warranty work (the base trim on the wing uprights are coming up), I will ask them what they think. I'll let you know what they say.
The sound I've experienced is just like your video. It sounds like a big high current relay actuating or some other substantial mechanical actuator, rather than the usual quiet mild click of regular relays. My previous 987 (and any of the cars I've previously owned) never made this type of loud clicking noise.

Thank you. Yes, that's how I would characterize this sound as well.

I recently acquired a new 718 GT4, and relative to our 991 it makes a ton of somewhat loud relay clicking noises when you get near or in the car. I got used to it, but it certainly happens every time you open the driver door after the car sat for a while.

Yep, my GTS 4.0 is also "haunted" by these robust clicks and clunks. My 2015 981 C/S never was this loud.

It looks like there is enough evidence on this thread to declare these sounds "normal." I do sometimes get funny looks from people as I walk away from parking it.

Thanks for confirming. It would be interesting to hear from a GT4/GTS 4.0/Spider owner that IS NOT hearing these sounds.

I've heard it from time to time since picking up my GT4. Never experienced this sound on any previous Porsche I've owned, but it doesn't bother me. Maybe the car is just letting out a little fart in its own way.

No idea what it is, but I hear it every time after I drive the car, usually a few minutes after I turn off the engine...if I'm closing the door or shifting the weight of the car somehow. It doesn't sound like something is breaking, it sounds...purposeful?

Isn't this just the fuel pump? Pretty sure all new cars do this, no? My M2 did it and the GT4 does it as well.

I'm pretty sure that it is not the fuel pump. The sound is coming from the engine bay, and sounds like a relay on steroids. Unless they changed the design from 918 to 982, the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank (up front), and I would have to believe that even the relay that drives the fuel pump would be near the front compartment to keep the wiring lengths down.

Usually fuel pumps sound like a soft relay click, a whirr of the pump, and another soft relay click shutting off the pump. This sound is a single loud click/clunk without any other fuel pump like whirring sound.

Mine does this. The car can sit for a day or two.... open the door and it will start up. It’s pretty hard to localize, but I think it’s from from the front of the engine compartment. You can readily hear it from 40 feet away. I’m curious if it will happen when I open the door after three months of being gone.

All manner of clicks, pops and noises, I put it down to communication with the hive...

I think it has something to do with the parking brake. The light of the parking brake blinks off and back on when I hear the sound. It happens every 10 seconds at my car. Sometimes near the front wheels but I just tested and it was in the rear. I’m confused...🤷‍♂️

Well, I'll be damned. I just tested this and I'm seeing the same thing! Every time I hear the popping sound, the light on the parking brake button/release goes from on to off to on again. The sound for me is coming from the rear. Weird, I wonder why it's doing that.
