GT4 in Racing-Yellow ordered 12/29/2020 by Terry aka tigerhonaker
Hey there Terry / tigerhonaker
Thank you so much for sharing your journey over the last few years. I am actually right now looking at a GT4 in Racing Yellow, but my partner brought up a valid concern about the amount of attention that a car like this could get (both to police and to people who may be unhappy seeing others with this).
I was curious what your experience was like with this car, and unwanted attention that you got over the years. Racing Yellow for me is a dream of mine for the last decade, but a bit older now, and am definitely open to different colours if it's a huge issue

1st, you say you are a bit older now ................
So, how old a fellow are you ???
I'm now 80-years old as of June 2025.
Current selfie of me with my GT4 in the garage.

Okay let me bring you up to speed on the attention I do and have received over approximately 4-Years:
If you have taken the time to have read a lot of my posts you already know I do offer opinions and when I do I say, It's-my-Opinion.
Below is NOT an opinion but as close as I'm capable of stating for you the attention I get with my GT4.
I Do-Not go anywhere that I don't receive a Thumbs-Up or when I park it that someone doesn't come over and ask if I mind them checking it out and taking some pictures.
Like stopping at gas stations while traveling there's Always-always people checking it out.
Many-many times someone will approach me to comment on it.
The above includes Ladies, Children, and of course men.
In my case I special ordered it in the "Racing-Yellow" and added as much Black to door handles, washer nozzles, etc.
Then I ordered the Black Side-Graphics as well as the Black Porsche name on the rear-spoiler.
All the Black makes the "Racing-Yellow" stand-out even more !!!
Further,
I wanted a 100% True Sports Car and this GT4 as I have it set-up fills that bill Perfectly and is an "Instant-Eye-Catcher" exactly what I wanted.
My Opinion Now ................
Why anyone would spend the monies that a Porsche GT4 and or Spyder cost in any of the SUBDUED colors makes No-Sense to me.
Sport cars are meant to be seen and my GT4 is a prime example of that.
Note*
Of course I realize that everyone has the right to spend their monies anyway they choose including their preference for the color of their choosing.
I think I should add the following ...............
If you actually Really-really "Don't won't-Attention" then stay Way-way-way-way away from "Racing-Yellow" !!!
Good-Luck with your choice,
Terry Honaker

I'm going to be 40 soon!
What you say about the black on yellow makes a ton of sense, and that's something I'll look to do too
You're also right - what am I even thinking... sports cars are meant to be seen!
Thank you so much Terry for telling it like it is

That's a lot less than I've been quoted Terry. Taking mine in for the 4 year service this month and the best price I found was $2,800. My primary dealer quoted me $1,800 last August and now they want $3,400. Probably $3,600 if I asked for a thank you card.
Yes all the Black definitely helps to further make the "Racing-Yellow" stand-out.
Well Old man (40-years old) your 1/2 my age so you have a longggggggggggggggggg time to enjoy a Porsche in "Racing-Yellow".

We agree that a Sports Car is DEFINITELY meant to be seen IMO.
Let me know when you actually make your move and Post some images for all of us.
From the prices I see the Primary Porsche Dealer is NOT going to Lose any monies doing your 4-Year Service, ever.

And whatever you do Don't request a Courtesy, Thank-You card.

Hello everyone,
..... I just received a nice Porsche Gift from Justin in Sunny-California. .....
Always a nice day when UPS shows up and you receive something from one of the Rennlist members.
Justin was looking for something that I still had from my 2021 GT4.
The "Clear-Side-Markers" that as some of you that keep up with this thread I had removed and reinstalled the Porsche OEM "Amber-Side-Markers".
Given that the UPS tracking was correct he should now have those "Clear-Side-Markers'.
Justin, said he wanted to send me something that he thought I'd like if I already had a Model of my GT4.
Nice gesture IMO from Justin.

Thanks Justin,
Terry
From Justin,
I also intend to send you, in my opinion, a very cool custom made "car related" gift. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Hi Terry,
Thought I’d chime in on your always informative and entertaining thread! I was driving the GT4 yesterday. It’s still a very special, fun car!
Congrats on your continuing enjoyment of your very clean and shiny GT4! It’s nice to see your enthusiasm is as strong as ever.
I’m one of those folks that prefers subtle colors and does not want attention. But even if I did want attention, I happen to love grey sports cars. I think black looks very purposeful and almost sinister, but with black you can lose the subtlety of the design. It can be harder to see the lines and the “muscular tension” of the car. Grey still shows those lines and is very “under-the-radar” and that’s what I love about it. I don’t love all greys, but Slate Grey is a color I fell in love with when I saw a Slate Grey 964 at the 2017 Rennsport Reunion. I thought if I ever got the chance for Paint To Sample (PTS) that was my top pick.
I/we have owned bright cars including Ultra Violet (purple) GT3RS, Peridot Cayman R and even a racing yellow 981GT4 (my husband’s pick). The yellow does get lots of positive attention and it was a show-stopper, but that’s not my personal preference. And like you, I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, and their taste, and in my case I’d say we are opposites
And that’s okay!
When I chose the PTS Slate Grey, the selection on PTS was very limited. I’d say there were fewer than 20 colors which was a bit unusual and it may have been a result of the pandemic. Some of my bright “short list” colors (Peridot, Signal Yellow which looks like orange-y mango and Maritime Blue) were not on the list. And of course they reappeared the following year. But frankly I was just happy to get a color I loved that I’d thought about a long time, and also to get the LWB seats which were supply-constrained, and to get the leather I requested (also supply constrained). I got the car exactly as I ordered it and there were plenty of folks whose car arrived with 18 way seats (when they wanted LWB). THAT would be a disappointment.
Anyway, there is something that draws me to certain shades of grey on sports cars, and I’ve been consistent in this regard for many years. I do enjoy some of the bright colors, but for me it’s easier to live “longer term” with grey. And since I prefer less (or no) attention both from police and the public, the grey is a better choice. I do enjoy chatting with anyone who wants to be inquisitive or friendly regarding the car and I enjoy letting people sit in it, but I also don’t mind going about my business without interruption.
One last advantage to grey: it looks clean almost all the time, even when it’s dirty! I am practical, and I love a car that doesn’t look awful after driven in the rain, or driven on wet roads after a rain. Slate may be the easiest “to-live-with” color we’ve ever had! We tend to choose silver or even white for an SUV because it’s easy to maintain and looks good even when dirty. I chose Slate because I love the color, and the livability of that shade is a bonus!
I still have the GT4, in fact I drove it yesterday. I am still enjoying it! Life definitely changed and I’m not driving it as much as I would have expected, but it’s a wonderful car and I enjoy it whenever possible. It’s been quite awhile since we kept a car for this long (since delivery in May 2021).
PS - in my profile pic, the little model in front of the GT4 is a Nardo Grey Audi RS6 Avant Performance. I ordered it March 2024 and it delivered last August. Yes, another GREY car, and I LOVE IT. It’s very different from the GT4 and I enjoy driving both. I’m very lucky to have two wonderful cars! The RS6 is getting some of the miles that would have gone to the GT4.

I went back and took a "Very-Close-Look" at the invoices below.
I didn't when I picked-up the GT4 as it was suppose to be STORMING.
So, I quickly paid the invoice and left as the GT4 was already parked out Front for me to pick it up and Quickly leave.
It seems Nick (Shop-Foreman) or the S/A did NOT charge me for the actual oil & filter looking at the Parts-Line it says. $ 0.00.
The invoice says, Labor $ 227.81.
Total Line, $227.81
Now I could drive back over and bring this to their attention.

But, honestly, I doubt I will.

So, your pricing may actually be in-line if Labor, plus Parts were added together.

As, I didn't want to come across in a negative way to those that don't wish to be in the Lime-Light and choose the more Subtle-Colors.
I was Always-always into the Bright-Red on my cars.
But, this time around I did see a Porsche in "Racing-Yellow" at my local Porsche of Nashville dealership and told Cathy (Wife) I think I'm going to go with that.
Cathy said you have had so many Red cars go with the "Racing-Yellow" this time as it surely looks GREAT on the Porsche we saw.
Also, Terry, you love being seen and talking to people about your cars so the "Racing-Yellow" will definitely IMO get you exactly what you want.
It fits your Salesman, Super-Outgoing-Personality perfect.

As I have said in the past and posted multiple times it would be IMHO a Very-very boring world if we all had the exact same thing and the same exact choices.
So, you don't drive as frequently now as you thought you would.
Well, nor do I but like you when I do I totally enjoy the GT4 as you do your's.
UN fortunately, just not as much as I would like to now that I'm 80-years old as of June 2025.
BTW,
It was great seeing your post and comments so if I post anything you find of interest in the future please chime in as you see fit.

Stay-Safe,
Terry
I'm glad you find some additional inspiration from my Dedicated-Thread here on Rennlist.

Believe me I'm now 80-years old as of June 2025 so my Super-Old-Bones are definitely not anything close to what they were 10-20 years back.

I do still Really-really LIKE driving my GT4 and I do that as frequently as I can.
It's mostly these days running local errands but still gets the GT4 out of the garage and it just sitting.
Cathy (Wife) and I are going to make that drive from Franklin, TN. to Huntsville, Alabama in the near future and that's a lot of fun.
It also is NOT on any Interstate, it's all on 2-lane Country roads with varying speed limits.
Looks like it's approximately 311-Miles, round-trip so really nice daily-drive.

Stay safe buddy,
Terry
Thanks Terry. I had it out again today. Such a fun car to drive!
Regarding red, when I was shopping for a C6 Z06 (primarily for the track) I found my first choice: Cyber Grey in North Carolina. As I was booking a flight to go look at it and probably buy/drive it home…the seller got a full price offer from a remote buyer, and sold the car (thankfully I hadn’t completed booking the flight so it wasn’t paid yet). I was bummed, but then I found a “cream puff” 3 miles from the house…in Victory Red. I really didn’t want red but when buying used, obviously one makes compromises and the condition of the car was great and it was a deal too good to pass up. It was a wonderful car for the purpose and I did enjoy it and even got used to the red. That was back in 2011, so I’ve had a “thing” for grey sports cars for many years.
Funny thing is that in person I’m very outgoing (friends call me a social butterfly) and I enjoy engaging socially with people. But for whatever reason, in the past 15 years I’ve gravitated toward cars that are “quieter” in color.
I do agree that the Racing Yellow fits you to a “tee”.
Cheers!

Greetings to Ms. "Social Butterfly" Carol. In the past I was a Die-Hard Corvette guy like one of my older brothers.
Especially the brother that's nearer my age and has had so Many-many-many Corvettes over the years.
He is now 83-years old and has a New Z-51 in Accelerate-Yellow C-8 loaded-up.
I'm going to have to in the nearer future drive up to Frankfort, KY. and get some pictures of his C-8 and my GT4 sitting together.

Lastly, a picture sent to me by my brother's daughter of BOTH his 61-Vette and his 2024 New Z-51 Vette in his garage.
He has had the 61-Vette for Ever and ever and ever .......................

in the past 15 years I’ve gravitated toward cars that are “quieter” in color.
I also have had a huge number of the "Bright-White" color on a large number of cars over the years.
I Really-really like "Bright-White" as it to me looks GREAT and is also "Super-Easy" to Maintain.
Bright Red though was Always-always considered to me and my Vette brother (Norman) the Absolute-Color for a Sports-Car !!!
Norman (Brother) saw my GT4 in the "Racing-Yellow" and liked it so much he and his wife (Diana) decided to go with the Accelerate-Yellow on his Special-Ordered Z-51 back in 2024.
Note*
I have NOT, Yet, seen his Z-51 in person but hopefully this summer I will drive up and check it out.

Terry
