Mine sits flush:
It is possible that the ones you received are a better fit for a car like the GT3 RS, with a different fender profile, requiring a wider clear marker housing. They have a different part number in comparison to our cars. See pics below:

I just ordered a set of clear side markers from Suncoast so I should have them by the time I pick up my GT4 from PEC LA.

Anybody know of a vendor that sells smoked ones? I’ve searched quite a few sites and came up empty.

You do realize that DOT requirement is orange. Why would you expect an OEM to purposefully violate that. P.S. The OEM doesn't care what happens when its in dealer's hand

The light is clear, but when it turns on, it glowes yellow as per the law. All the color comes from the LED, therefore the plastic can be clear to silver in color.
