Agreed, it is a terrible sound that is certainly not worth saving 1% or whatever miniscule amount of overall fuel consumption. After all, buyers chose to spend a heck of a lot of $ to have a nice flat 6 sound instead of a 4cyl, so to ruin the auditory signature with cylinder deactivation just doesn't make sense (though I know, emissions...). Annoying to have to press the button every start up.

This is just part of the path to having it not able to be turned off eventually: Introduce *** and allow people to disable, then make it so *** is on all the time by default but still able to be turned off, then *** never goes away.
