Default Finally Received my 718 GT4!

Ordered in March and the wife and I picked it up Saturday. Purchased from a small dealer in Springfield MO......drove it home to SE PA Saturday and Sunday! After weeks of calling PCNA for updates..... tracking the Siem Cicero, seeing the ship at Baltimore and watching as it enter the Port of Houston on live cam, the GT4 is finally ours and in our garage!

And what a drive! Beautiful weather, 1200 miles through awesome roads in southern Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, WV, Maryland and ultimately PA. Followed recommended break in procedures by varying the RPMs and these roads made it easy to do so. Once we hit 650 miles we started to open it up a bit.....well yeah!

I was going to ship the car but had some difficulties getting a timely delivery scheduled. Weather looked perfect west to east...... SO HAPPY we decided to drive it home. What a blast! And despite 80-90 MPH speeds, no tickets! Thanks Waze and our temporarily installed radar detector......

I have a 997 TT and wondered how this car would compare. I think the GT4 is more engaging and more fun to drive. Thought it might ride rougher but I think it rides better than the 911, of course my 911 is lowered on H & R springs and has 75,000 miles on it. Don't really miss the turbo boost.....once broken in, the GT4 is a beast. Pulls so hard. Sounds great once the exhaust valves open up, handles like its on rails. Sport Cup 2 tires stick like glue....even in 45 degree temperatures. Absolutely wonderful car.....and if I asked my wife once I asked her five times during the trip: " What are people bitching about the gearing for?" Sure in 6th at 80 mph you might want to downshift to 5th to pass a slower car more easily but compared to my 5 speed turbo I think its fine. I had a 2017 GT350 with long gears and an 8250 rpm redline but this car is 100% more engaging to drive IMHO. And it passed the wife test! 18 ways provided a very comfortable ride for the 17 hours we were in the car, perfect for us. I had the Recaros in the GT350 and neither of us liked them very much. As we parked in the garage she said: "I like this much more than the 911." I have to agree!

I love the Apple Carplay / Waze integration, love the LED headlights and auto dimming feature, auto blip, and the way the car handles and accelerates......so much fun! Very happy with Chalk and Aurum wheels....not everybody's choice but I really really like the combination. Chalk, like Miami Blue, appears to change hues depending on the surrounding light. Looks beige, then gray, then almost white......really pretty cool.

First mod is complete, clear front side marker lights (after the pictures were taken), Soul Over axle pipes and valve controller on order. I agree with other posters that the exhaust sound gets better the more miles the car accumulates, but I want to enrich the stock sound. I will be doing an oil change in the next week or so. It goes for window tinting and PPF next week. I was VERY cautious around trucks and vehicles ahead coming home and once I removed the bugs I cannot find any chips....I think our route of travel and times of travel helped in that regard. Had long stretches very early Sunday morning with the Interstate virtually to ourselves......loved it!

SO HAPPY with the GT4, I absolutely love the car! It has exceeded my expectations and answered all my dreams. Looking forward to trying some AutoX and track days moving forward....in the meantime I will be driving it daily!

Thanks to all of the RL contributors that helped my decision making along the way! Now excuse me.....going for a drive!

First picture from SA on Weds!

Fresh off the Truck, prior to dealer prep.

In delivery room checking it out!

Congrats kinklman! Chalk is a beauty! I love my clear side markers. Nice write up and nice way to break in the car!

Nice car, but so many lies above. You couldn't have 'opened it up' before the full 1800 mile break in. Your engine would have exploded.

And 'pulls hard'?! I'm guessing you've never driven a six year old Cayman S or a 30 year old Testarossa.

And please, don't even get me started on the Cup 2S sticking in 45 degree weather. Not possible. You must have misread the outside temp gauge and it actually said '75'. Otherwise you would have just slid off the road in the first corner you took.

And, yes the gearing does suck. You need to learn to drive around at 7k rpm everywhere - trust me, when you do you'll know what you're missing. And everyone you pass will look at you and know you're 'the Boss'. Well, at a minimum, they will look at you.

Finally, no chips? Seriously,? You're killing me! You didn't have PPF on the car and you drove 1,200 miles? Your bumper must look like a 13 year old's face in mid puberty.

And with all that reality, there is simply no way you can really like this car. It sucks and we all know it.

j/k

LOL. And you forgot that it is not a 911 and therefore not even a real Porsche! How could you forget that? Anyone who buys anything with a mid engine only does so because he can’t afford a 911. We all know that!

NOT!

Beautiful car and wonderful write-up. You're a lucky man.....if your wife enjoys it also

Please explain what the auto dimming feature gets you, and why it's so necessary. Thanks!

Welcome to the club. Looks like we both got ours this weekend. The chalk and gold wheels look very sharp.

Thanks for all the nice comments........just took it out on the local twistys and fell in love all over again......wow as long as you keep the revs high its so much fun! Mastering the down shift to 1st which seems unnatural at first, but I am starting to get the hang of.

Fantom, at least with the LED headlights, when you engage the high beams they will automatically dim and reactivate when oncoming vehicles approach and pass......really cool on the interstate in the wee hours.....its certainly not necessary but my wife an I like it!

Archimedes, I know ......reality sux doesn't it?
