Considering Selling My 718 GT4... Is Anyone Else?
After 9 months of ownership, I’m considering selling my GT4 for a number of reasons.
I think it is one of the nicest GT Porsche’s to look at of all time, and it handles incredibly well... but all round, the car is just not doing it for me on two levels, which are the most important areas to me.
01 - Sound: Yes, I know we are all tired of listening to people giving out about the sound or lack of sound, but it is just shocking how bad the car sounds, especially when you accelerate hard. My 3.0 petrol Cayenne sounds much better, and that’s simply not right. I should not have to put an aftermarket exhaust on the car, and I am not interested in doing so.
02 - Acceleration / Responsiveness: both my Cayman S and GTS felt much quicker off the line. The GT4 feels like it actually has more lag than the turboed GTS. Again, my 30 year old Testarossa feels faster off the line. Yes, I know the GT4 can produce good track times, but I drive my GT4 on a daily basis and I just can’t find the power it should have, when I want it.
Simply put, I expect better sound and acceleration from a GT car... as for me, they make the soul of the car, and the GT4 just lacks the usual flat 6 NA Porsche soul.
A bit of context around my Cayman experience and ownership... I had a 981 Cayman S for 2 years, then a 718 GTS for 2 years, and now the 718 GT4 for almost a year. I am not into tracking my cars, but I do love to take my cars for spirited drives on quite roads.
I have my name down for a GT4 RS if they do happen to ever release it (let’s not start that debate), but overall I’m curious to know if any other 718 GT4 / Spyder owners feel the same about their car?

wow the OP's experience has me questioning my desire for a 4.0 GTS....and stands in stark contrast to many reviews which state that the new 4.0 has abundant torque but perhaps that is just classic journalistic lip service?
I am interested in hearing other's real world impressions

You should sell it.
Laughable post. You think a 981 Cayman S is quicker off the line than a 718 GT4? And a Testarossa? A 5+ second car to 60 feels faster than your GT4?
And you spent all the money on a GT4 for sound and 0-60 times?
This has to be a troll thread.

Your experience is pretty much the opposite of mine. While the exhaust flap control logic that closes them between 1800-5000 in first and 1800-3700 in other gears sucks, stock sound with the valves open is pretty nice (like my 987 but louder and higher revving), though I’d admit the 981 sounded better (unnecessary crackles aside). Your comparison to a Cayenne sounds bizarre - Cayennes with PSE don’t sound anything like this stock. In terms of acceleration/power, your comments don’t really make sense to me at all. There’s practically zero lag (well a few milliseconds electronic throttle lag, but that’s negligible and present in every car of the last 20 years). Low end torque feels great to me, and it feels much stronger than 987 S, 981 S, and 718 base models at every RPM range. Above 5000 RPM, it’s faster than every 987/981/982 variant, and feels pretty close in acceleration to my previous AMG GT S.
Your Testarossa and 981 S feeling faster off the line makes no sense whatsoever. First gear just grips and pins you to the back of your seat violently in this car, much more so than either of those, and goes up to 80 km/h (50 mph). If your car doesn’t, something is wrong with the car, or you’ve forgotten how the others feel and have somehow gotten used to AWD EV launches. When you have the G meter view turned on, and floor it in first gear, how much acceleration do you get? It should be around 0.7 to 0.8 G (traction limited) all the way from 2000 RPM to redline.

Go out and learn to drive. Your 718 GT4 isn’t slower than your old cars. Use Rev-Range 5.500-8.000 its a quick car and feels to me mich quicker than 981 GT4.
Sound IMo better and more mechanical than 981 GT4. 981 GT4 was loud but not good sound note to me.

Pretty sure aftermarket exhaust would solve your sound issue. I can understand the desire to not put one on, but the sad reality of progressing restrictions is that exhaust sounds are going to continue to get worse IMO.
sounds like you need an old 5.0 mustang. That’d get your sound and power off the line

Then by all means, sell.

Next time test drive or rent a car on Turo before you buy, that way you will save tons of money taking a depreciation hit and won’t waste anyone else’s time with silly posts like this.

I have learned to drive a gear lower for my spirited drives. That gives me both the proper sound and throttle response. I came from a 981 Cayman GTS with PDK and this car is noticeably faster.
The sound issue is just something that is going effect all cars coming from Europe. My daily driver is a 2018 Macan GTS, and the sound of a 2020 Macan GTS is noticeably worse. You are going to need an aftermarket exhaust to remedy this regardless of what you buy.
