Hey, if they're happy doing that, I'm happy for them! It keeps Porsche's sales up, keeps the dealership's sales up, and makes really awesome cars more available to more people.

For me, though, I enjoy learning the in's-and-out's of a car and that's a process that takes me years to accomplish. But, I thought my GTS would be a "forever" car, too, until I was offered an allocation on a GT4. It was tough to swing financially, so unless business really explodes I'll probably have to pass on a GT4RS allocation—if I'm even offered one. I'm hoping that most of the RS improvements can be incrementally added to a GT4 over time.

I've been guilty of getting on the hedonistic car treadmill myself. I read a post on 6 speed online where a guy was trying to stretch to buy a GT3 and was planning all the ways he could barely make it affordable. One of the members there just said Hey at some point you will either go broke chasing the next great thing Porsche comes out with or you can choose make yourself happy with the car that you own. That statement made a lot of sense to me. Porsche and everyone else will always have another car that is better than the last one in some metric or another.

It’s not like this advice is even particularly bitter for Porsche. The pool of low mileage good condition used cars is extensive. Can’t afford a 991 ? The 997 gt3 is a beauty. Can’t afford that ? Well some people prefer the 996 anyway …

I’m with you. I went from a 981 GT4 to the 718 GT4. The 981 GT4 sounds awesome (I know archimedes disagrees). All revs across the tach the 981 sounds amazing. However the 981 just had this dead spot early in the revs and just overall felt sloppier than the new car.

I just got back from a drive and I think I figured out where the 718 GT4 shines. You basically need to be driving it like a total ****** (as the brits would say). Around 6-8k RPM this car will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up unless you’re dead inside.

The 981 on the other hand was pleasurable IMO at lower speed.

The 718 really does feel more like a baby GT3. Maybe even illegitimate offspring of the 997 GT3 and a GT4 if that makes sense.

So - I say to you sir. Before you sell start revving the living **** out of the car and see what you think.
