There is a layer of black soot that has settled on top of the car. Once the smoke finally clears, how do I get rid of the mess that it left behind on my car? I can only imagine what this is doing to our lungs (don’t want to know).

I used a foam cannon and pre-wash, covered the car with wet soapy foam. Then I let it soak a bit and then rinsed if off with a gentle spray. Then I foam cannoned the car using my regular car wash and washed the car as normal. Came off fine.

I took it to a car wash stall and used a pressure washer to rid of the coarse bits, then I took it home and foam cannon + bucket wash.

Ash is acidic, so I rid myself of it ASAP.

I wouldn't recommend trying to spray off anything coarse from your paint without foaming/soaping it first to give it some lubricant. If you just spray off a dry car with water, you are essentially scraping those harsh particles against the paint as they're being removed.

Agree though that ash should be removed quickly.

Move yourself and your exquisite taste in cars to Texas where we don't have an income tax.

Thanks everyone. I guess I need to buy myself a foam cannon tomorrow. (P.S. we don’t have an income tax either in WA).

If only. We do the opposite. We ban cutting then down. Which is the biggest reason why we have these fires get out of control. Way too much fuel on the ground.

Here in Monterey, if a tree dies on your property, you have to plant a replacement. I have 65 trees on my 12000 sq ft lot and when one dies and I want to remove it, I have to plant a new 15 gallon Monterey pine. It’s nucking futs.

I know someone that had a massive fine for cutting down some dead trees on their property. Apparently they needed to get a special permit and a licensed arborist to cut down a bunch of dead trees and weren’t supposed to do it themselves. Things don’t make a lot of sense out here a lot of times.

Quick Reply: So how do you get rid of the soot on your car from the fires?
