Official numbers sure, but C&D already did 0-60 in 3.7 seconds with the manual, and I'm expecting them to save 0.5 seconds if they give it GT3-like gearing, 0.4 seconds if they give it standard 718 PDK gearing. I would be shocked if it needs more than 3.3 seconds 0-60 in magazine testing, more likely 3.2 seconds.

Paralysis by analysis, the vette is an American muscle car.. might as well compare it to a ZL1, SRT, this and that.. Just doesn't make sense to me. We buy P cars because of exclusivity, build quality, beauty and efficiency of design, and reliability. In the case of the GT cars, you can also include resale.
Since the GT4/Spyder was launched in 2016, I have seen 3 GT4s and 0 Spyders on the road. How many vettes? even Z06 vettes? Hundreds... I see several at work during the summer, and only a porsche or 2, mostly 997s..
Just my $0.02. We can't lose track (pun intended) of the rationale we use to own one of these amazing machines.

I saw a total of 4 gt4s and 1 spyder (both generations) in 4 years... I like that!

same as it always was. vette faster and better value than porsche. porsche better feel and intangibles.
.
better test wouldve been c8 vs 718gts with pdk. closer in price, tires, and transmission. and no surprise a sports car with mpsc is faster than one with 4s. that is probably worth 1 sec right there.

This wasn’t a fair fight.
The Z51 is a baby step above the starting base model. It is the equivalent of the Cayman T for the Stingray line-up. I wonder how that test would have resulted?
The GT4 is the culmination of what Porsche has to offer on the 982.
Hell, the GT4 was on Cup 2s and the Corvette on all seasons!
Corvettes smell bad (terrible VOC off gassing), they look cheap, they are built to a much lower price/standard, dealer service is abysmal, and are much heavier.
However, they have just as much heritage and successful racing at their core. Plus, IF they break motors aren’t worth their weight in gold.
Lets give credit where credit is due. The Z51 lost by one measly point. Can you imagine how a GT4 equivalently priced Z06 would have performed?!?!
From a performance perspective Porsche better give us one monster of a GT4RS if they want to keep up with team Corvette!!!
...and I would still rather have my GT4

rumors of z06 are a return to roots of c6 z06 which was light weight, basic drivers car. not like c7z06 that was too heavy and over powered. talk of na dohc with 600+ hp and 8000+ redline. hard to pass on something like that for a gt4rs that will probably be $50k more expensive

Was the C8 really on all seasons in the test? I haven't seen the magazine, but my understanding is that the Z51 comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires.
While the C8 is Z51 is vastly cheaper than a GT4, and I have no doubt a C8 Z06 that's cheaper than a GT4 will vastly outperform it, it was a reasonable comparison in terms of power to weight ratios. Porsche has the GT3 RS to compete with the Z06, again at a much higher price point, but a fairer battle on power to weight and position in the product line. If they compare a future PDK GT4 to a C8 Z51, I'd consider that a pretty fair apples to apples comparison aside from the tires. With that said, I've noticed that C&D tests with Sport Cup 2 tend to have worse acceleration and braking results than PS4S because the PS4S don't need to be warmed up to grip. See how C&D test results for braking distances on the 911 GT3 and 718 GT4 are worse than the comparable GTS models.

I'm not too surprised, "bang for buck" on-paper performance goes to the American cars in this day and age - esp. the C8 gen vettes, staggering for a semi base car. Heck a C7 Z06 in the right hands will decimate a GT4 of any variety, and costs less than a C8 Z51.
However, if I was all about bragging rights on paper I wouldn't be buying a Porsche to be honest, for me it's a car that's about the intangibles / "feels", quality, etc..."numbers" are great to have but there's always something 'faster' around the corner, but there are few cars that engage a driver like a Porsche...(your results may vary!)

Only novices (of which there are always plenty) get bogged down with HP, torque, 0-60, and laptime comparisons. When I was young and poor I knew the HP and 0-60 numbers of every car on the road and could tell you the biggest bargains in the car market based on those numbers and price. Camaros and Corvettes topped most of those lists. In 2006 I test drove a new Corvette, 911, and a Boxster S looking for a backroad carver. The Boxster won hands down and HP/0-60 had absolutely nothing to do with it. I'm pretty sure the result of the same comparo today would be the same (except it would be the non-turbo Boxster GTS 4.0 or Spyder instead of the turbo Box S). Literally, there's no substitute for Porsche.

Porsche’s sports car zenith shouldn’t be another manufacturer’s starting point.
Although the 911 is a great car, I too have owned and been a lifelong 911 enthusiast, it is not the sports car it once was.
911 is now a very capable touring car that looks like a sports car.

I have given Porsche a lot of my hard earned dollars and would happily do it again if they will give us a full fat, no excuses, fully developed mid-engine car.
