Black Spyders?
As you may know from a previous post, I've ordered a racing yellow Spyder. However, before my order locks, I'm wondering about how black might look. Unfortunately, the configurator does a poor job of depicting the black version. If you have a black Spyder, I'd appreciate seeing pics of it; I couldn't find a Spyder/black thread as there is for some other colors. Thanks in advance.

Look in the black spyder thread. There are a few good pics in there. Looks great, but it's a maintenance nightmare if you're the least bit OCD.

Yep, I've had several black cars in the past, it's part of why I hesitate - they look beautiful when washed, but need frequent washing. I looked for a black Spyder thread, I must not have looked hard enough. Thanks.

Not a phrase coined by me but after having black (and dark blue) cars I fully agree with, "When you have a black car, it owns you..."

^ This is why you do Black, including those HT inserts.
I've had multiple Black cars (it's a Lifestyle), just washed one this morning, also have Racing yellow.
Between the two colors, I feel Black suits the Spyder better. This combo with silver wheels is stunning!

Here is a link with some pics. Love the black Spyder - especially black “widow” look of red calipers and red stitching - looks very aggressive. I think this one has black calipers.

DocMo, your car is just stunning... the HT inserts make that interior just pop.
Well done!

AviBen you should just go for black if that's what you like. The black Spyder above looks awesome. I've had 3 black 997 Porsches & these cars look great in black. Now with these ceramic coatings & excellent protections available, it's easier than ever to keep the cars looking great. In fact I just bought a black SUV few weeks ago & with ceramic coating dust doesn't even settle on the thing. Washing is also a breeze.

Wow, stunning with those silver wheels and the HT inserts! One of the best looking Spyders so far. This tempts me to start playing with black/silver on the GTS 4.0 configurator.
My first Porsche was a new black 987 Boxster S with silver wheels. With a PPF on the front half and a detail 1x-2x/year, I kept it fairly clean and swirl marks free for 40k miles and 70+ track days. The trick with black cars is to minimize touching and rubbing them as much as possible. With today's PPF and ceramic coats, all you need is 1x-2x/year detail combined with touchless automatic car-washes in between to rinse off then dry it off with a quick highway spurt before using bug remover on the front PPF and parking it in the garage sparkling clean for the next run. It also helps if you're not too OCD and are ok with allowing the car to get dirty or dusty. One big advantage of black cars is that the looks improvement from dirty/dusty to clean is by far the biggest. It's like getting a new car all over again.
All that said, I have a GT Silver Boxster now and have to admit that silver does hide dust MUCH better.

I think black would look stunning. Have had a bunch with the last being a GT3RS. They're fantastic when clean, BUT.... if you're obsessed about keeping your car clean, IMO there are a few musts.
Would I order a black Spyder?... If all the above done, YES!
- Get the car FULLY ppf'd - roughly $4500+
- Get the rocker panels coated with extra layer/s of ppf
- Ceramic coat everything. With new products like Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light + EXO v4 Package the application is super easy and very forgiving to amateurs like me
- Get ceramics if you're going for light colored wheels. Keeping the car clean and then spending time on cleaning the wheels is a PITA

Yup! If I was getting a Spyder it would be black with the blk/red roof and the classic blk/red interior. A proverbial black widow spyder...lol
I'm currently on my second black full sized pickup. As this is a daily and w/o PPF, i've polished it and applied a coat of CG jet seal to deal with some of the black dilemma. If its a garage queen w/PPF, then go for it. Its a tiny car to wash and lets face it, you'll be washing it constantly regardless of colour.
