Default Launch Control

Who has used it? I Tried it out for the first time last night with ESC + TC off. Immediately experienced some wheel hop so I let off a bit until I caught traction and then the engine bogged. Tires were warmed up so I was surprised it did not stick. For reference, I have Dunlops and rear tire pressure was about 35psi.

Lets hear your experiences with it.

Thanks,

1. Do you have sport chrono (technically shouldnt matter but Im curious)
2. Did it say "launch control activated" in blue letters on the right of the dash? Or just rev limited to 5k?

- Launch control per the manual:

- engine operating temp

- Traction Control (TC) switched on

- vehicle on even surface

- electronic brake not applied

1. fully depress the clutch pedal and hold

2. engage 1st gear

3. quickly press down the accelerator as far as it goes and hold it down. “Engine levels off around 5,000 rpm”

4. engage clutch quickly.

*maybe not having TC on was the issue?

I don't remember seeing that message come up on the screen but it certainly held the revs at 5k.

I have a feeling that has something to do with it. I did read the manual prior and raised an eyebrow when it said to have TC on - you would think to launch the car this should be off (like most other vehicles).

The TC is what modulates the power.

I plan to launch a lot

So leave TC on, but does it say in the manual whether ESC should be on or off to put it into launch control?

This is verbatim from the manual. It doesn’t have avy additional requirements besides the TC.

Try both. The car will cut power it wont let u kill it... i bet u need TC on or at most 1/2 off. Cup 2 arent great for launching so dont expect too much. Its really hard to nail a launch in a manual anyway so does it really even matter? It wont be reproducible against a subaru at the stoplight lol

and think of your clutch longevity! IMO launch control (particularly in a manual) is about as useful as covering your air vents in leather...

Agreed much fun in my PDK but in the GT4 MT not worth the clutch points. I think I used it twice with the PDK. As promised its a tricks are for kids thing but there is a little bit of kid everyone!.

I would never do launch control (I pull off basically at idle because I drive like an old fart), but I have seen people do it in a manual GT3 and it is pretty impressive and very repeatable — like PDK level repeatable.

I did it once at PEC L.A in their GT3 ... very impressive but I value my drivetrain too much...

I didn’t use it vs C7 Z06 vette - car just hooked - flash of traction when in second. The new sticky tires probably played a large part in that
