Default This car is glorious

  • I love it.
  • It's not as fast, or quick as my GT3, but I didn't expect it to be.
  • I can't believe folks are unhappy with the noises this thing makes.
  • Or anything else for that matter.
  • It's wonderful, even in yellow.
  • I love it.
  • That is all

There are a lot of us who agree with you and think the sound of the car stock is just fine.

I disagree, when the valves are not open , it sounds like you are on the roof of a heavy equipment factory....numb humming and unpleasing.
half of the joy of driving it , is the sound it should make. the 981 has a glorious sound which is missing in the 718 .
Mine is parked until the Soul valve control unit arrives

You disagree that he likes the sound of his car?

He's not alone... https://rennlist.com/forums/718-gts-...-point-39.html

the 981 was probably one of the best sounding versions, I still miss my 981 GTS. Soul and FAbspeed should name it a little better, but it will never be a 981.

I'm really curious to hear the exhaust note for myself soon. The 981 did sound brilliant, but I came to really resent the pops and burbles in Sport Exhaust mode after the novelty wore off. Honestly glad those are gone on the 718.

Congrats, Sean!

Same here. Got so tired of the phony noise on that car. One of the few drawbacks of an otherwise excellent car. The sound of this car is gonna be perfect for the non-brap brap crowd.

Stock exhaust system/architecture is awful.
theres a little life at 3600 or so when valves open, but even then its barely enough to crack a smile.

as annoying as it was listening to all the reviewers harp on it, they weren't wrong.

Yeah, I think this guy would disagree with you (as would many others)

"For what it’s worth, I took my GT4 to the track today. Willow Springs. Like other people said, the sound improved a lot from new! The car has about 2000 miles now. All hardware is stock.
It is sounding great! Really much better than 1500 miles ago!"

Just picked up my Spyder and was expecting to be disappointed with the exhaust - surprisingly I think it sounds fine. Is it "great"? No but much better than some have said. I have an R8 with a Kline exhaust and had Fister cans on my 911 - all of my cars typically get modded pipes so I know the difference. I will likely go with over axle pipes once I hear them in the flesh but for now, I'm all smiles.

How does your Spyder sound compare to the Fister can in your 911? I have Gundo Hack/Fister type mod to my 997.2 and I am curious to hear your opinion of the two.

We get it, you're one of the biggest apologists in this subforum. I've got more miles than the guy you quoted, not that its important. And of course others can disagree, it just tells me they haven't heard well executed exhaust systems.

Sound is subjective.

I will reserve judgment until I heard my own.

With my macan PSE, it did sound different after more miles.

This is kind of like arguing which color is the best.

Manual vs PDK, sofas vs buckets...

It’s all good.

Prior to my 718 GT4, I had the 981 CGTS. I wasn't a big fan of the pops and gurgles, but was ok with it. So I don't miss it with the 718 GT4. However, more than that the 981 had a drone in the mid-range of the RPMs particularly when on the freeway. Don't have that problem with the 718 GT4. Of course, all my experience is from inside the cabin and don't know how it sounds outside (even with the windows down). I haven't heard the new engine above 5k rpms yet, but looking forward to it soon. Seems like the 718 GT4 also has a sound symposer, but I'm ok with that.
