Curious to read so many people with this kind of issues and techniques. I guess I'm lucky I don't have any issues closing the roof...

Was yours that way since new? Mine's always taken some muscle to get it in position so the latch is activated.

Same here. Only needed additional small pulls first dozen or so cycles.

Mine still does, I would be curious about those that say otherwise, if they are implying the don't have to pull the front edge at all... simply flip the top over and push the button, in other words hands free?

I would be surprised.

Yes. Give it a good push on top into the header and lean in and close via console switch.

Mine is the same way. Pretty easy actually.

OK, so from this I would say you are giving it a bit of help 'before' you operate the switch...

In contrast I would say that I would not attempt to close mine that way, I always operate the switch while seated in the car, this after over 9 months and dozens of cycles.

Suffice to say that they are all not quite the same in this respect.

Well it doesn’t come out of the trunk by itself, lol—just a push forward when folding forward.

When I’m closing I’m always walking away, so easier to lean in vice sitting back down.

Out of curiosity, why would you “not attempt” to close it that way.

I do a final pull at the front right before latching, it's like the same as pushing down when folding, I just do it without thinking.

Also I did get used to that since the 981 Spyder I had, In that car I had some issues but was because some bolts where loose inside and a bit of lubrication was needed. On the 718 Spyder I have just had a rear alignment lid problem but now it's almost gone.

I have never failed to latch the 718 Spyder.

Because so far, each time I have tried without a helping hand the hook skipped off the center point because it didn't catch... I guess the roof on mine hasn't stretched out quite enough to use this method.

Same here which is why I use the alternative method I described above. Mine is almost a two person job trying to latch the traditional way.

Hook skip? Strange, never had that.

It either latches or no hook movement due to distance from header ... never had a skip.

Perhaps mine is just loose. The OM closing Step 11 directs assistance via the handles while commanding closed. Technically that is the designed use/procedure.

Has anyone else experienced this type of failure? The tensioner snapped at the swivel point. Dealer said $261 for the part and said it may be covered under warranty. Geez I miss the 987.2 top.

Right side is fine.

The top works fine even though the left side is broken.

Need to check mine if you say it isn't interfering with top operation...

This I don't understand? "may be covered by under warranty?"

Why wouldn't it be covered?

He wasn't certain. I think the guy works for the Audi side of the garage. I'll ask to speak with the Porsche service mgr tomorrow.
