Default Motorweek Review of Spyder

Is there a thread for latest Spyder Reviews. Sorry couldn’t find it or I would’ve posted there. Happy to move it there if it exists.

Thanks for posting! Is it me, but it's weird how they didn't do any real-world performance tests. Just quoting other numbers from PAG. I wish I was in the market for a manual convertible, what a beauty.

Thanks for the find! Yeah...I was hoping they'd actually "test" it too. It also looks to be a European model with the clear side marker front lights and the wider opening rear bumper. I wonder when we'll starts seeing test of actual North America models? Even so...still enjoyable to see that car carving up some roads!

I think pretty typical video for Motorweek. That sane guy has been doing the reviews since I was a kid - so that is a long time. And he hasn’t really changed anything. Pretty vanilla. The videos look and sound pretty much as they did decades ago. But the car did look beautiful and I never tire of watching it carve up the road.

Thanks for posting.

I never get tired of the smooth dulcet tones of John Davis. I am pretty sure he's an animatronic at this point, but I can't prove anything... yet.

I suspect they just put a video together with what they had...I believe they are based out of MD, and do all of their formal testing at Roebling Road? Probably couldn't get the car out there for their normal gamut of tests with the current climate.

Love his voice, even if the reviews are largely fluff. Good video of the car on the road, shows off how much more composed and buttoned down it is compared to the 981. Also convinced me to black out that PORSCHE logo on the back of the car. You can see if from a mile away!

Honestly, I think that video has some of the best driving footage I've seen so far in any of the reviews.

Yeah, good driving footage. Review was more akin to one of their ‘short take’ reviews. The full reviews are usually pretty good.

Indeed...I remember watching it in the mid 80’s with my dad when it was broadcast on PBS!

Gentian Blue does look pretty sharp in bright light. Those PCCBs really do fill the rims! At least for that reason, might be tempted to check that box! Nice to be able to see how the front and rear ends are aggressive and masculine over 981! The diffuser looks prominent in motion.

Same here! Probably a good part of my car desease comes from watching this show, which was the only way to « see » cars being tested! No youtubers in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I clearly remember the test they did on the M5, must have been in 1987-88... One of the first car I really dreamed of owning!

Honestly I’m happy that he is still alive and doing what he loves, even if the reviews are a bit blend and dated!

They are out of MD, Chesapeake region has had tours of the studio with a presentation by John Davis. They typically use a drag strip near Frederick MD to do their timing, they have also used Summit Point and Roebling Road for track work. Maybe they will give an update when Porsche drops off a US press car.

Man...I remember being 7 or 8 years old in the early '90s and looking forward to watching MW on Saturday mornings on PBS. Good times...
