Default 718 GT4 Clubsport MR Delivery

She’s here - Toronto, Ontario:

Livery by the incredibly creative guys @ NS2:

A few questions to others familiar with this platform:

- Data logger / video: Intending to install a AIM SmaryCam GP that would connect to the OEM Cosworth data logger. Have others done this successfully?

- Slicks: Plenty of manufacturers support this car – for races OEM Michelins are great. But for DEs what works well if I wish for some more life out of my slicks even if its at the expense of optimal grip?

- Suspension: Keeping it all as it got delivered at first until I get used to the car. What are others finding works best for them wrt suspension set-ups? My home track is Mosport.

- Any other lessons learned?

I will post pics post livery/decals/PPF installation – my talented friends at The Refinery will be starting this job next week.

From the research I have done the Pirelli DHs last longer and are a bit more consistent...of course they are slower on the first heat cycles.
Car looks awesome....enjoy it!

Congrats! How does insurance work on this? Who in Canada, cost? Honestly asking as I have interest in a Track Day version.

DM if you'd rather.

Reach out to PMNA (sole importer for US and Canada ; car sales contact below) for pricing as I'm not sure what the track day version goes for. In addition to car, u will have to factor in shipping, import duties, mandatory parts package and sales tax. You could also ask your dealership to see if they will help with the paperwork.

As for insurance, I'm still searching for fire/theft and looking into track insurance.

Sincere congrats! Looks great.

On the data system, suggest reach out to Peter Krause (Procoach here on RL), he helped me on my set up. After looking at Cosworth Toolbox, I decided to just stay with AIM and got a SOLO 2 which can be configured for the 718 Clubsport. My car is a Track version so there could be some differences to the MR, but I'm not sure. There should be a CAN port on the passenger doorsill. I also got a SCHD 2.1 for forward view and will use my old SCHD for rear view - after AIM repairs it.

No feedback on tires to offer yet, I am going to COTA soon and will try out the Hankook F200 ( 250/640 and 300/680). I also have a set of Hoosier R7 to test (245/40 and 295/40). One process I had to learn was measuring the circumference and then entering these in the Cosworth ICD using Toolset. It's covered in the Tech manual but took me a few tries to get it done. PMNA says it's important for the ABS/PSM and also the PDK programming.

If you haven't already suggest get registered in PMRSI at https://motorsport.porsche.com. This will give you access to the Tech manual and also the parts catalog. Again not sure if the MR version is different.

It took me a while to get a portable N2 system for the airjacks. There is a lot of info here https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...ly-system.html

There was a bit of delay getting my spares package. Not a big deal but in the USA due to EPA regs the fire suppression bottle is not installed in the car and is sent along with the spares.

Best of luck with your car. I'll try to update with thoughts on tires in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the contact. I am interested in figuring out operating costs as well. I've searched here but nobody shares proper numbers, it's all vague with no data. Perhaps she can help with that too.

Tried OpenTrack for on track coverage?

Zedcat - thank You for your feedback and I look forward to reading about your findings wrt trying out various slicks.

Truth is that there aren't many others locally I can reach out to as not many 718 clubsports in Canada at DE, private track days and PCA club races.

And this is my first experience with a race car so I'm incredibly green at lots of stuff. I have a great team that will be maintaining the car but it is encouraging to know that there is good knowledge and experience that I can leverage on this forum!

I can't wait to drive a race car for first time - looking forward to going faster in the corners and for being in a much safer vehicle. I also hear race cars are epic fun

The Refinery doing their magic correcting paint prior to installing wrap/decals and then the PPF:

I gotta ask. Why correct paint on a race car?

Thinner paint on this car, especially with paint on top of the CF doors.

Yes it's a race car, and yes it's gonna take a beating. And since I'm not doing a full wrap on car as I want to have the white and CF contrast of MR exposed, I went the PPF vs wrap route.

And yes paint job from factory came in OK but had some swirl marks and imperfections. So before layering on $$$ PPF why not correct the paint?

What I'm still not 100% decided on is which decals should go under vs over the PPF. Anything under becomes "permanent" so perhaps will leave the numbers and some of the fake sponsors on top of PPF in the event I need to remove them for a club race.

Not that I am in the market for such a gem, but can you tell me the specs are for the engine in this car are?

I thought that the ClubSport was running the 3.8l but I see that the new aero is fitted around the exhaust like a 4.0l...

Looks great!

Yup, same 3.8 litre as 981 GT4 and clubsport but has a new intake manifold to raise horsepower from 385 to 425. That's also the same engine that went out of production a few years ago when the 911 Carrera S switched to a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six.

The 3.8 litre is bullet proof and proven/tested in street and race car Porsches so likely why they didn't go with the 4.0 in the 718 GT4 that's relatively new and untested on race tracks.
