982 GT4 Spyder?
#1697
It's 30kg heavier. The other 50 come from the fact that Porsche can't advertise option weights as the base weight any more (i.e. pccb and lwb). I'm betting all of that 30kg come from the battery for start/stop and the insert into the exhaust in place of the particulate filter in the US and the particulate filter in ROW. Both easily fixed.

Cars must now be homologated without any weight-saving options ticked, so “this car nominally is about 60 or 80 kilos heavier on paper, but it’s only about 30 kilos heavier in real world if you compare apples to apples,” said Preuninger.

I think that’s the primary difference with the weights quoted for the 987 Spyder, 981 Spyder and now the 718 Spyder. IIRC here’s how each was quoted
- 987 Spyder Weight 2811 Lbs: Quoted with LWB, no AC, no Radio, standard steel brakes (basically stock form with no options)
- 981 Spyder Weight 2899 Lbs: Quoted with LWB, no AC, no Radio, Steel Brakes (required optional LWB so actual base price higher)
- 718 Spyder Weight 3130 Lbs: Quoted with Sofa, no AC, no Radio, Steel Brakes (basically stock form with no options)
Please correct me if I’m wrong here, I’m not sure if PCCB weight reduction was used for the 981.
Personally I think the latest quote is similar to the original spyder quote, the 981 was a bit misleading since you needed to check that box to get the lower weight.
While I agree that there will be aftermarket options for the exhaust I’m not sure there will be the same options for the battery. Those start/stop functions need that power on hand and I suspect the electrical system will give you a warning if a lightweight battery is substituted. It will be interesting to see if there’s a lightweight battery option and how much of a reduction it will provide.

718 GT4 and Spyder announced
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...e-convertible/
As expected, Bringing back the NA flat 6 but with a 4.0 liter and 414 hp this time
wow!! 10 seconds faster around the ring than the previous GT4???
How much did this just drop the prices of the current GT4 and 718???

a little surprised that Spyder costs less than the GT4
so, if there's a GTS version (Boxster 6 and Cayman 6), how will they be priced? Boxster GTS less than Cayman GTS???
The 2020 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder are available to order now and are expected to reach U.S. dealers in Spring 2020. The MSRP for the 718 Spyder is $96,300, while the 718 Cayman GT4 retails for $99,200 – both not including the $1,250 delivery, processing and handling fee.

Somebody has picture of the Spyder Classic interior package ... that includes bicolor roof red/black?

Certainly better cars than before.
But I don't like GT suspension on the Spyder. Makes one wonder, will the strut tower keep breaking....?
Anyway, not buying the Spyder. Not gonna futz with the roof. Funny, because I almost bought 981 Spyder, but in retrospect I am glad I did not. I'd like to see Boxster 6 "Touring". I'd be interested in that. But I have a feeling I might be happier with 718 GTS anyway.
And not a fan of the rear diffuser. Need to see in person, but it does not look good in the pics.

The brakes are now GT3 spec, 981 has Carrera S spec, so that will mean significant weight, also wider rear rims and tyres.
The big pluses for me now is that this is NOT the “poor” cousin to the 4, it is spec for spec the same power, brakes, wheels and tyres and suspension.

But 24 more top-end hp with same torque? This is incidental.
It looks like a great car as expected, but if I decide to order it's for one reason and one reason only, and that's in order to spec the car exactly as I want it.

I'm just going to say that the engine is a disappointment and likely will cause problems. It's not designed to be NA. It does open the door for swaps into craft 991.2 builds though
They should have gone full GT3 4.0.... Sadly a 3.8 X51 from a 991.1 would have been better, proven and made more power.

From my perspective owning a 981 spyder, w iPd plenum and Kline headers . Thus i have same or more power n 300lbs lighter. New body has marginal differences and upgraded or different suspension / brakes depending on how you view it
yes nice to have newer pcm and warranty but not worth the delta in price for just that
