I know that this EV Cayman is still partially hidden by camo, but based on those Carscoops pictures I'm not a fan. First off, why is it so big? It looks huge, like 992 kind of huge. In fact it kind of just looks like a 992 in general. Also the hatchback profile is so bloated, it just looks boring and terrible. The best Cayman rear IMO is the 987 with the very curvaceous hips and the fastback hatch that is shrunken and minimized, this is the polar opposite.
The rear hatch is fake, the side quarter window is fake (you can see its stuck on) and chrome trim around the windows is fake to make it look like a 911. It will have a very different profile to that once the camo is removed and be more in line with the current Cayman shape.

It looks like a Cayman although every successive iteration of these cars (and the 911) is less appealing aesthetically to me. The 987 and 997 versions are to me, very elegant designs and very Porsche with tidy dimensions. 981 and 991 are also very nice. I am guessing that there will be lots of black plastic in the production versions of this 718 just like in the current 992.
The new EV Cayman looks pretty nice to me, like a Taycan and 992 had a baby. I'm guessing the actual rear window shape will be more different to make it more Cayman like, though the car seems a bit longer than the current Cayman and more 911-like in shape. I know a lot of this forum hates EVs, though I find the car interesting. I'm guessing the range will be disappointing for the first iteration, though as battery tech improves I expect the 983.3 (or whatever it's called) to have more range and less weight, akin to the last Taycan refresh.
Instead of being call the poor man's 911 the Cayman 718EV will be the poor man's Taycan!
But we all know some people will buy it. Probably some Millennial or Gen Z person who’s all about “doing the right thing” but not actually into sports cars. Because it’s not about the car any more, it’s about the image.

Zooming in, it does appear they are hiding the shape of the rear side windows.

I don't care why they buy it as long as they buy it. If it helps Porsche stay in business to make other cars we want then I'm all for it.

Driver looks absolutely brimming with excitement behind the wheel of that silent “sports” appliance.
The launch will do its best to create a buzz, and those who have no interest or ability to buy will feign their enthusiasm but this is going to be another disappointment when the sales roll in like Taycan (and Macan EV surely to follow).
FWIW, I’m in Germany for a few months. Headed to Zuffenhausen yesterday to take the Porsche Factory tour. We saw the entire length of the 911 line. The guide said they were no longer producing ICE 718s on that line. In fact not one was seen along the entire line. He even showed us where they were staging new machinery for the start of 718 EV production.

They shifted all 718 production up to Osnabrueck in Northern Germany quite a while ago (was previously used as a flex location).
This car looks to be having an identity crisis... all wrapped up to look like a BRZ.
Electric or ICE, this car would only sit in my garage if it were under a $250/month lease.

Ah. Good to know. Wish the guide would have made that clearer. He seemed to indicate that they had ceased altogether which I found a little odd. Thanks for the heads up.
