It seems that the flow buyers jumping on the Porsche EV bandwagon has slowed, I think that the EV early adopters in the Porsche world have already bought their ride, I don't read about excitement from others for a 718EV or a 911EV, quite the opposite, people grabbing their last chance at the ICE versions before they are gone.

Based on the news stories above Porsche may actually be getting the message.

Makes sense to me, there is almost zero excitement with this EV car - the market is exhausted from all these EV’s with the same feel and battery capacity in a different wrapper (usually SUV) for $80-100k+ (that will be worth $50k in a year). Taycan sales tanked 50% YoY.

And I would be shocked if the plan is still to launch an EV only 718. That may be the biggest flop of all-time for Porsche. Small chassis = small battery = poor range. It already won’t be sporty at well over 4,000lbs, nor exciting as a top down roadster (silent and or pumped in fake AI spaceship noises). Styling is ok, if not too derivative of the other EV’s - but the big issue is literally NO ONE is talking about it - a brand new Porsche sports car platform (1 of 2 they have) that’s imminent within the year to be unveiled. No one seems to care, this should be a big wake up call for Porsche. I wonder if the new 718 will outsell their $12k, 15mph E-bike that has been such a great success at collecting dust in dealerships.
Here's me with my new bike. I just came out of a meeting, and felt I was looking particularly cute so I thought I'd rest my ***** on the cross bar and get my buddy to snap a pic. I think it came out pretty great.

Quote: Let's look at the 2 main reasons the ICE 718 is going away: 1) Software for cyber security in EU, which Porsche says will cost as much as an all new development and 2) Global laws that are banning the sale of ICE cars in many large markets
I can see software security as a major issue given the ability of some cars to self drive. Nefarious types are probably already working on software to drive cars remotely, with or without a driver on board.

It’s not about hacking, but rather than securing/encrypting the powertrain emissions programming so it can’t be touched.

You are about 10 years late with your prediction.

The daft thing is, making the vehicles over-the-air accessible for updates will only increase vulnerability. How secure is your iPhone, pc etc in reality? Not as much as you’d like…

Quote: Credibility, I don’t understand? It published on the record comments from PAG. How is that not credible?

Do you mean that Blume’s comments themselves are not credible?

We’ll know in a couple months when PAG has its annual meeting and associated reports.
thanks for the report. I must admit his interview sounds very definitive EV only for 718s, while there was powertrain flexibility mentioned for all the other porsche lines.

A reminder from Car and Driver this is coming

Quote:
What Might Go WrongThe loudest 718 Cayman we've tested measured 106 decibels at wide-open throttle. Hopefully, Porsche owners won't cry louder than that.

Both are interesting articles but really tell us nothing new, or should I say say nothing definitive until we get an official model announcement and release date. I haven't discounted the 718 EV altogether but...

At this time I am far more interested about the threads original topic, "ICE through 2026" We are still in January of 2025, it will be interesting to see what happens over the next 10 months and what that might mean for the 718 ICE and what Porsche offers for sale until such time as they actually close the book on this model.

Good grief! As a cyclist, I am offended. Porsche needs better Marketers.

I'm excited to see what a proper EV sports car can be.
Maybe I'm the only one.
But I don't think so...
