How Old Are You?
I was curious about the average age of our 718 owners. If you can please participate in the poll. Thanks in advance. You do not have to make a post saying your age.

Ive noticed the average age goes up depending on trim level. While a base 718 does have the ability to be specced as high as 80-90k, stripper specs are pretty common and early on before all the price jumps, you could get a lightly optioned 718 for around 60k new. Thats within the affordable range for a lot of people in their 20s. But once you start getting into the higher trims where the starting cost is 80-90k or in the 100s you're going to get more people in their late 30s and later. I myself am 39 and bought my GT4 when i was 37. The majority of Porsche owners that i know personally are all around the 40-ish age range.

I think also a lot of people choose practicality over enjoyment. A lot of my friends will generally choose the SUV over the sports car because of the practicality it offers. For me, this is my only car because i dont need the space of an SUV.

I say 4 seaters are 2 seats too many for me 😊

each time you go into the dealer for the oil change, you will see the nice 911s and 718s sitting in the showroom. eventually you end up buying a second car for the weekend.

Now? Nope. Ha ha. Starting price of a 0-option stripper is $75K (with destination) now. I bought my first at 54. This will be my 2nd, at 62. Could have bought it much younger, but didn't really like them until the 981.

Yeah definetly not now. But when the first 718 came out you definetly could. I remember looking at the configurator back in 2017 when i was dreaming of my next car and looking at between the F87 M2 Competition and the Cayman. Ultimately i did end up getting an M2 as i thought it was a better deal on paper. More power, had rear seats, and was still cheaper at 58k for what i wanted vs my full base Cayman build which put me in the 70k range. It's insane that the base Cayman is 20k more nowadays. I wonder if Porsche would have done better if they had released a few more special edition models that were basically just pre-specced base 718 sitting around 60k. I think while the initial MSRP was attractive, its after you add everything and you realize you've specced out a car thats 20,000$ over the quoted MSRP that might turn a lot of first time buyers away. I mean it certainly did for me. What ended up making me come back to Porsche was me making enough money that i could spec a GT4 and not really worry too much about the cost. But you cant always rely on someone's financial situation improving if you're trying to capture a younger audience.

I largely agree, but i think keeping the "affordable" sports car in the 60k range should allow for that. It's a space that currently is really only dominated by the M2 and the Supra. But none of that matters anymore lol.

Everyone has different opinions. I would let the Supra's dominate the $60k price market. I'd rather people look at the Porsche more like a premier Ferrari type buyer than the $60k Supra alternative. I own two BMW's and even I have always looked at Porsche as a step above BMW. I say lets stay above them market wise not lower ourselves to compete at their level. Does that make sense? Just my own personal outlook.

funny. it was just the opposite for me. let her drive the 718 and after 10 minutes of being scared to death she mellowed out, hit the freeway and we had some fun. stopped by the dealer to grab something and she saw, and quickly fell in love with, the macan. currently searching for a good deal on a used one...
i almost went down the exact same path, twice. m2c vs 718. had a couple good, knowledgeable friends suggest the m2 for the same reasons - power, cheaper, available upgrades. went with the 718 and never looked back. 5 years later and wanted a new track toy and almost bought a nice used m2c but found a great deal on a 987.2 instead.

I personally really like the M2C but for very different reasons. The GT4 i had was a scalpel. The M2C was a chainsaw. Granted very different price points, but i'm sure my incoming GTS will feel similar. M2 was definetly a hooligan type of car. Way too much power and torque everywhere and very jumpy around corners. It's fun, but it's also the kinda thing where the fun starts getting annoying if you know what i mean. The new M2 i was considering buying but what ended up keeping me away was 1. the 8 month delivery time as i wanted their full carbon package with the carbon buckets. And 2. how heavy the car is. its quick for sure, but the weight you really fell imo. I have a G82 M4 which is the same platform and you can really feel its weight when driving. And i'm just itching to get back into a lightweight car.
