As I acquired my CGTS as a result of a buyer walking away from it, mine came without as I would have ordered it. It just completes the center console for me. So over this past winter I installed it while I had the console apart to install the GT4 short shifter & brushed aluminum trim. The wiring was a bear but thanks to some posts in the 911 forum I was able to figure it out so both the light and lighter work as installed at the factory.

The whole smoker's package name I bet is why at least some people don't option it at no-cost, only to find out it cost them a 12 volt socket in the console and gave them a mostly worthless cubby in its place.
I agree. It's most commonly a rookie ordering mistake to not take it.
I've had both. I think the little cubby breaks up the console and looks better. But the smoking package provides 12v for other things if needed. in the end i will probably convert to the lo profile cup mount.
I can't believe I'm going to admit this, but I thought I read that the Porsche trickle charger HAD to be plugged into the socket in the passenger footwell. I've been performing death-defying acts of contortion to access that port when parked in my garage. Just to confirm, it's safe to plug the trickle charger into the smoker's package socket? 2021 718 Spyder

Of the low profile cup holders, which one best matches the existing plastic?
Looking at the ones on ebay and Kaizen. Are there others that I should consider?

This is the proverbial horse that's been beaten to death--if you plug in your "trickle" charger (I bet it's a battery maintainer which is different) in the center console cigarette lighter outlet shortly after shut down it will still be live and the battery maintainer/Porsche trickle charger will work indefinitely absent a power outage (and some survive and power up after a power outage too). The cigarette lighter will time out some minutes after shut down if there's nothing plugged into to maintain a load/draw on it.
The acts of contortion you speak of are why I retrofitted the smoker package in my 22 BGTS--drove me nuts plugging my CTEK into that footwell socket.
I've also sarcastically advised a poster over on the 718 forum who was other thinking the issue and not believing what I and others told him, to just plug their maintainer in the cigarette lighter outlet and find out for themselves that it works.
(1) It is free
(2) It is dead useful, particularly for trickle charging as has been pointed out by others
(3) When I take roadtrips it is an easier outlet for my radar detector
I have it because I think the door looks cleaner than having a big opening there. I also use the 12v to plug my CTEK battery maintainer in and it works perfectly for that.
Don't have smoking package in my Spyder but if I spec the car then of course I'd choose it. The hole is useless to me, it's too shallow for anything and stuff will most likely roll around or go flying out in a spirited drive.
I'm also thinking about retrofitting a cup holder but don't know which one to use.
Lots of trickle charger users - not a high value use of the smoker's package for me. Never needed one of those and don't expect I ever will given we drive all our cars on a regular basis.
