Do or don't have the smoking package?
I have Porsches with both versions. The smoker's package stays closed & seems pretty useless unless you need an extra charge port - which I haven't yet in years of ownership. The non-smoking package bin gathers dust and seems pretty useless unless you need a spot to drop a few coins - just in case - which I haven't yet in years of ownership.
I'd prefer no opening at all vs. either option.
Which do you have and what do you use it for? Maybe I'll get some useful ideas.

personally i used it for a small microfiber which i used to clean my glasses. I also used it for guitar picks but both may not be relevant to you. That being said i'd still spec it as its a free option and i dont like having the little opening there. Even though i've never used the 12v port thats there i do like just having the option in case i have a passenger who wants to charge their phone on long trips

I've had both. I find I use the little storage bin from time to time, whereas I never opened the smoking package lid nor used the outlet.
I started with the cubby bin in my 981, quite liked it and didn't find it difficult to keep clean. Switched to the smoker's package in my GT4...missed the bin. Switched back to the non-smoker's package in my RS.

Use the 12v in the smoking package every time I turn the key; cell phone, iPad mini, oxygenator, grandkids video games, etc. While I do not open the storage every time, it is used a lot; travel card pack (PCA, AAA, USCCA, INS, etc.), USB cord, eye wash, etc. Must haves for me.

I use the power socket there as an easy to access socket for my battery maintainer. I don't like having random stuff strewn about visibly in any of my cars. I even keep the cupholders empty of random knick knacks in my other cars so even if there was no such option as a smoker package, I still wouldn't put anything into that tray.

The extra charge port is a lifesaver for me, especially during long drives when I need to charge multiple devices. I usually have my phone and a GPS device plugged in, and having that additional port is very handy.
I use a storage bin for spare change, business cards, and a compact flashlight. It’s also a great spot for small tools that I might need quick access to while on the road.

The covered one is the perfect place for me to store a couple of vape cartridges.I have a little microfiber in there so they do not make noise when driving.

Dont forget about how dirty the non smokers package cup gets. This would drive my OCD through the roof!
Plus it leaves the center console looking finished. To me, the car without the smokers package would be like driving around without an “optioned” fuel cover door.

I would never spec a car without it because to me the hole it cover is useless.

I retrofitted smoker's package in my 2022 BGTS CPO because plugging my C-Tek battery maintainer in the footwell socket was a pain and it looks better shut than the dumb cubby bucket that's too small for anything more than your keys, pocket lint or spare change. I prefer have it to not having it, and Porsche should make it standard equipment, with the no-cost option to delete it, rather than the other way around which it is now. Or even better (as most auto mfg do) have a 12 volt socket somewhere in the console with an option to order an ashtray for smokers that want it. The whole smoker's package name I bet is why at least some people don't option it at no-cost, only to find out it cost them a 12 volt socket in the console and gave them a mostly worthless cubby in its place.
