  1. Related to the above, it doesn't matter if you have the money. Other luxury markets are the same way, like watches. You can't just roll up to a Rolex store with $25k in cash and ask to buy a watch, you'll get laughed out of the building.
  2. In today's market, be prepared to pay an ADM or market adjustment, aka "how bad do you really want this car?" tax. I am paying $10k ADM on my build. Some dealers are selling at MSRP as they go through their waitlist, but it is often a very long wait and they probably have a longer list than they will get remaining MY24 allocations at this point.
this is an epic flex, even for the renn.

Final answer? After my recent 700 mile road trip and high speed seat time in the 911, I came home and jumped into the 718 today, and I felt like I was home. While you can't pick favorites between your kids, often times parents secretly do!
Unfortunately I can't own both so I had to choose. I love the 992. It's more upscale. More grown up. Love the way it looks and feels. All the things you said. Plus the backseats, however small they are, can be helpful. But the 718 is more fun to drive. It was really hard to choose because there is a strong urge to pay more to own the "icon." I still don't know if I made the right choice. Then I go for a drive.

I know I am biased, but I've owned several of both platforms and to me, this says it all: "Then I go for a drive."

I just returned from an early morning drive. I grab the 718 keys over the 911 keys 9/10 times. I just love this car!

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I think people are still having this debate (718 gts vs 992). I’m lucky to currently own a 718 BGTS and a 992s, both with manual transmissions. I’m debating consolidating to a 992GTS cab vs keeping the 718 and adding the 992 cab. Financially, I should just have one Porsche because I’m not independently wealthy. But, I love both cars. One thing that I feel, is my 992 C2S, to me, feels smaller and more nimble than the 718. I think this is because of the rear axle steering. I haven’t seen anyone else make this comment, but when I read all the comments saying the 992 is big and feels larger than the 718, I wonder if they have rear axle steering in the 992 it’s being compared to. Would anyone consider keeping a 718 BGTS along side a 992 GTS cab? I think if I was going to just have one, a 992 cab would be my choice. I know there are lots of opinions on looks, original design intent, etc. I just find the 992 more comfortable on a semi-daily basis and love the rear axle steering. I’m a ragtop convert, and any small sacrifice in handling is not going to outweigh the open air experience I enjoy. Also, I throw my small kids in the back occasionally, so that gives points to the 992.

I'm hoping to be in a position one day where i dont have to choose. I have a BGTS coming in, but my wife really wants a 911. I plan on eventually buying her one and she says she'll be happy with the base Carrera which with her build is about 135k which isnt terrible. I think it'll be nice to have a 911 along side my 718 4.0

I had a 2023 911T with RAS along with my 2022 CGTS40. I sold the 911 after one season and plan to keep the Cayman as long as possible.

To me, the 992 felt big. I loved the idea of the 911 more than I loved driving it. Whereas the Cayman, I LOVE. Period. Mic drop.

To each his own of course. I'm just providing the requested data point. 👍😁

appreciate the response. I think I need to keep the BGTS longer. The new car won’t arrive until July so I’m going to drive it as much as possible between now and then so I don’t prematurely get rid of it and then regret it. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The problem is the 718 as we know it will be gone and replaced by an EV. It's not like the 718 will be here much longer.

I had been having this same debate in my mind, unsure of whether I really wanted the Cayman GTS 4.0 or the Carerra S. After driving them both back to back at the PEC, I decided that the Carerra was not really the feeling that I wanted out of a sports car, the rear engine feeling was not enjoyable to me.

If you are planning to do more than commuting with the car, it is worth the money to drive them both at the PEC. You can learn how the car behaves in a way not possible on an ordinary test drive

Driving a car at PEC and driving a car on the road are two completely different things. Also, my 992 GTS cab is both faster and handles way better on the road than my GT4. Granted, it has all the Nannies like RAS, PDCC, PCCB, etc.

If you want a GT cruiser with a techy interior and bloated exterior, get a 992. If you prefer a more analog, old school sports car that looks great from every angle, get a 718 GTS. If you really want a 911, I’d look at the 991.2 or a 997.

Apologies in advance for being blunt, but seriously, who cares? The NSX hasn't been made for almost 30 years now yet you can still get one if you want one. People take care of their Porsches, and there are TONS of them and unless Russia gets loosey goosey with their nuclear weapon inventory or a comet hits us, will be for as long as any of us will be able to drive. This "omg they're going away" thing needs to stop.

And asking this question in the 718 forum should net you the expected response from people who actively chose the 718 that they prefer the 718. Surprise! But as someone who was not as enamored as I thought I'd be with this platform, I vote consolidate to a 992 cab. It may sound like a socialist concept, but unless you're Jay Leno, you really do not need more than one Porsche sports car. Pick the one you like the best and get rid of the other one and don't look back. Your life will not be materially better because you have two nearly duplicative experiences in your garage, and you can only drive one at a time.
