Question Is DeMan Regearing short enough

Hi Folks,

I'm contemplating the DeMan regearing, and wondering if it's actually short enough, and if 1st could also be a bit shorter?

Looking at the speed in gears here, it seems to me that they can all still be a bit shorter. I'd think that 1st could wind out to around 45, with 2nd coming in around 67, etc. Since I live in the U.S., winding it out to anything past 2nd would put me in jail, plus keep in the engine in the real meat of the powerband more often.

Stock: 49 / 84 / 116 / 144 / 172 (mph in 1st / 2nd / 3rd / 4th / 5th )
DeMan: 49 / 75 / 103 / 131 / 157
Proposed: 44 / 67 / 94 / 125 / 157

Let me know what you think.

This topic has been done to death. Have a search through this post, plenty of info on deman gears, as well as other competitors.

The reason I didn’t change 1st gear was to preserve to stock reverse idler. If you wanted to pay the extra $500-600 to make a new reverse at the same time, anything is possible. The question becomes is 0.1 second on your 0-60 time actually worth it?

It's a reasonable question. I am also interested in the regear for my spyder but have to think a more drastic change would be more enticing. Set aside the fact that I am only considering Deman. When I'm feeling sporty I am in third on the highway. That is ridiculous and it seems the Deman would not change that scenario.

Any candid remarks are appreciated without delving into weeks of reading to find specific information related to this gripe.

Another keep in mind is that with 1st gear, doesn't Porsche in theory intend for you to actually downshift into it when going faster than a roll? So if you think of a slow 20 mph hairpin or something, making 1st shorter by 5mph may not actually help. And if you are not willing to use 1st in such a turn, then it's the length of 2nd that matters anyway.

Unless you are doing 0-60mph launches all the time, I don't think 1st is a problem at all.
