718 Pricing Updates - 2024
#31
Track Day
Hate to see pricing increase but interest rate hikes, inflationary woes, and continued ADMs don’t seem to have made a huge impact yet on new Porsche demand. All new 718s aren’t the easiest to come by. Credit to
Porsche for continuing to make a low volume sports car and realizing they can probably take home a bit more of the margin. Hope they use that profit to develop future models we will also want to buy…

I think it depends if you see the value add in doing your own build. If you are flexible, you could probably save 20 or 30k on a lightly used one with standard options (many of which are included in your specs). I saw a lot of value in doing my own build and I had several options that I do not commonly see in used inventory. It is a tough decision—good luck.

Thanks for the pointers; looks like I've got a lot to think about in the next few days

Try and find a new 718 T, talk about rare AF. Kinda cool how insanely rare they are
EDIT: https://www.meritpartners.com/in0-255325 Buy this unicorn yesterday, almost half the price of my GT4, kind of a smoking deal tbh

Yeah, 2018s with 10k-15k miles are going for near MSRP from the same time period. Prices on these just aren't going down. Crazy to think that in 2018 you could've gotten a new Cayman optioned out for around 60-65k

I built a Cayman circa 2018, not at all “optioned out” and it hit 80K… not sure which currency you’re converting, as even base Caymans were beginning ~ 66K

I could have missed something though

In Canada in 2018 you could have gotten a new cayman then starting at low 60s, which works out to under 50g USD. A 991.2 was 104g cad, which is like 80g USD. 981 GT4 was 96g which is under 75g usd. The real steal is a 991.2 GT3 was 165k Cad MSRP, which is like 125k USD. Today You probably can't even get a 992 S for that.

Don't forget to factor generic inflation in your calculations. My 5 1/2 year old Cayman S is probably worth about $65k - sticker was 82 and paid 78. Using the Fed's CPI calculator, my $78,000 paid in January 2018 would now be $94,000. So I have a $94,0000 car in 2023 dollars now worth about $65,000. Still a good depreciation curve, but the real numbers aren't as dramatic as they seem on the surface.
Parenthetically, this also tells us that the price increases everyone is bemoaning really aren't abusive on the part of Porsche. They pretty much are tracking inflation. I optioned out my 2018 car on the configurator recently and it came out to $94,000. Considering that I got a 5% discount when I bought, the 2023 car MSRP is actually slightly cheaper inflation adjusted.

Though it appears that prices did NOT increase for MY23 cars (on the dealer's configurator), sadly deviated stitching is no longer an option on 718 CGTS 4.0s.
Curious to hear if anyone has info to the contrary.

Congrats!
I got a 2024 cayman gts allocation but turned it down on principal. I refuse to pay extra for the privilege of waiting 6 months.
The Lotus Emira is starting to look good!
I think I’m done with Porsche after dealing with the dealerships. They act like they are doing you a favor by giving you the privilege to pay $100k + for a sports car.
