996 set bought off eBay. Many available for around $300. 911 set is same so will also work. Suncoast sells new around $1200

No, run flats and high performance do not co-exist.

Note that these old 996/986 spares do not fit on the 4.0-liter cars. I had one of these spares for my 997.2, and did a test fitting with it the first week I owned my CGTS 4.0. The wheel fits the hub fine, but you can't rotate it without it coming into contact with the brake lines - a very "Bad Thing".

My solution was to purchase a closeout 19" wheel and cheap tire from Tire Rack for just $275 total with tax and shipping. I leave the spare wheel/tire in the basement, since I spend 95% of my driving time within an hour of home. So my wife would be my "recovery vehicle" - and that's only if the tire repair kits that I carry in the frunk don't work. I hope to never need to use it, but it's always best to be prepared for the worst! Here's a picture of the test-fitting:

I agree, but my son's new C8 Corvette was delivered with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S run flats. The model number is PS 4S ZP which I guess means zero pressure.

The run flat tires weigh more according to Tire Rack spec sheet. 4S in 20 sizes range between 21-33 lbs and the equivalent run flats weigh between 25-35 lbs.
I don't expect to buy the run flat version for my Cayman. I'll stick to the non RF style and have less unsprung weight at the risk of having to plug a puncture on the road sometime. Now I've probably jinxed myself LOL.

The certainly do but the ride is harsh due to the stiff sidewalls. Have had several sets on new BMWs.

^^^ x2, had runflats on my BMW Z4, horrible, took them off right away and replaced with non-run flats, huge improvement!

Great plan.

When I travel, I carry an ARB flat tire repair (plug) kit and a robust air pump. So far, no flat tire since the 2017 purchase.

Run Flats are great on the Sienna, not on a sports car.
