Default Noise level

My wife and I have just completed a 2200 km road trip with my GT4 and the only comment I have is at 2100-2800rpm range there is a drone in the cabin that makes conversation difficult. I have just removed the sound symposer tube and vacuum valve and it made a world of difference to improve the interior sound. Conversation are much easier to have (wife can inform me of posted speed limits). I should have done this before going on the trip. Otherwise we have done 10k in the car since picking it up in April and would not hesitate to drive it in town, on a road trip or at the track.

Interesting - this was my impression driving around for an hour on b roads. I felt like I wanted ear plugs (77dba is pretty loud)

Thank you to all that replied, I appreciate the inputs and they will seriously be factored into my decision since Hennessey Porsche in Atlanta is saying GT4s aren't allowed on the road with customers for test drives.

Try a regional forum but some one should be able to give you a quick test drive and you could see for yourself.

The GT4 is loud inside. You can have a phone conversation on the highway, but you have to turn the volume up a bit and speak loudly. You can hear music fine as a soundtrack to your driving - but if you’re “into music” and you actually want to listen to music and appreciate it, it’s not really good for that.
I just bought a GT4 and went on a date with my 7 month pregnant wife... 110 miles round trip with buckets, half cage, squeaky pads, and everything else you mentioned.

"OMG, I love this car so much it is 100% worth it. This is way better than the previous car (base Cayman). The bucket seats are more comfortable except it's impossible to get out by myself with this belly," is what she said on the way to and from dinner.

In terms of your M3, it feels like a luxury car with a sports car look which is what I would consider the 911. Compliant, good for daily use, and insulation (compliant suspension, sound, etc.). The GT4 feels like a sports car with a luxury look to it. It feels a little more raw where they remove some insulation (a little more bumpy, louder, etc.). If I were to draw a sliding scale from extreme comfort to race car, I would go M3, 911, 718, then GT cars.

For me, the GT4 is the perfect car in terms of compliance, price, performance, reliability, cost of ownership (maintenance/consumables), and depreciation. I can't think of another car that is that good in every category.

I sold my Targa GTS and ordered/bought a 718 Spyder - could not be happier. Enjoy your new forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/992-245/

Happily sold my 8 month old 992 C2S for a Boxster GTS 4.0 (not yet delivered). I wanted a more granular sports car. IMHO, the 718’s better reflect Porsche’s sporting heritage at this point.

Great decision!! 8-9 months ago when I decided to get another Porsche, I test drive the 992 a few times, and honestly I didn’t like it. It wasn’t feeling like a sports car, it felt heavy, bulky, didn’t like the sound, didn’t like the turbo lag, just wasn’t what I was looking for. The GT4 was the perfect fit, it checked all the boxes I wanted and craved for. So yes, totally agree with your comment about the sporting heritage

I compared all the performance statistics acceleration, breaking, cornering, track times. 992 Was the same to slightly better just with less drama.carl

all this is true and relevant ! Riverside porsche would barely let me roll the car around the block . After the purchase I rolled around the block again and driving home I only got a few miles before inserting the earplugs . Driving without is extremely painful to my ears . If there’s a way to unplug that system I’ll. E doing the same as soon as I get to the dealer cause either I get rid of the droaning or get rid of the car !

The advantage of being old and having hearing aids. I can just turn them off.🤣

Default Cabin noise

Hi,

I'm going back and fourth between a GT4 (the car I really would like) and the Carrera S. I like the way the GT4 looks more and would consider it my favorite, but the concern that I have is the actual cabin noise. I've seen the reviews and I'm not sure how realistic some of the comments are and want to get additional inputs.

So, for those of you that have a GT4, how would you rate the cabin noise from the motor?

Some things to consider:
Can you talk on the phone comfortably?
Can you hear music well or is it drowned with engine note?
Would you consider it a date car or just a driving car for yourself?

Thanks for the feedback gents.
get the Carrera s ! It will be quieter . Remember the engine on the carrera s is hanging off the back bumper ! The gt4 ir right behind your ears hello !!!!! I am both and the GTS is as far as I would go towards noise . The gt4 I’f you get one you’ll have to do what I’m planning on doing . Hopefully Removing the fake canned cabin droning ear spouting mentioned in these blogs . Hope it improves because without stopping the droning im
forced to wear earplugs . I drove it yesterday with earplugs and still experienced painful eardrum aching . I have a GTS Carrera no such problem . I test drove a cayman GTS and didn’t notice the same problem ! Good luck 🍀

why don't you go test drive and see for yourself?

What's the better date car? Probably depends on the date
