Yup, that's what I do, I usually have 5 core vehicles (a DD, a race car, wifes car, a sports car, a truck) I hang onto long term and 0-4 more vehicles (usually sports cars) I cycle through quickly because I usually time buying and selling them so I lose minimal, break even, or even make money off owning them. Example: I used to buy extra sports cars in fall, drive them until it snows, or even winter drive them, and then sell them in spring when everyone is looking for a sports car.
It's the same with property, core primary residence you leave alone, but extra properties the market can be timed for buying/selling and re-entering, and things can work out really well if it's timed right.
