The fuse box has rows of always hot and switched. And this car times out QUICKLY so I did not have to wait an hour holding a volt meter on a fuse slot until it timed out. LOL.
There are four rows of fused, the top is three huge ones and an empty slot.
The next row has always on power.
The bottom row is switched off when the car is off.
A piller cover comes off easily BUT when putting it back you have to line up the tab that mates with the lower trim. Sorry did not catch a photo of that, but I ended up pulling the carpet cover off the fuse box area to hide the wires and that piece is continuous with the side trim, so actually putting the A Piller trim back on is easier if you pull the lower trim down with the carpet piece that covers the fuse box.
Camera in front is mounted just below the mirror on center, and the rear camera is mounted on the back deck just behind the wind screen, high enough to have no obstruction.
If you noticed that the front camera is not straight, just stop. LOL.
I have Gen 2 in my M5, this is my older version, has the boggy detector function though, I'll upgrade to the Gen 2 soon enough. Buying out my M5 lease tomorrow and after buying the GTS I think my wallet has to cool down before I buy another Radar Detector.
Interestingly enough, I got an email back from Valentine with regard to the fact that the new Gen 2 (as well as the older ones) still false alarm near all Honda cars with safety radar. They said they are working on a solution. I thought that the bands were where they determine that stuff, and that car safety radar is limited to a known particular band and the radar detector should be programable to ignore that ???? What a pain. Too many dam Hondas out there with their blasted safety radar on their ODD frequency.
I moved rear cam to top of wind screen, it was too clipped when mounted on the painted surface where I had it. Could only see upper images. In the current position with the roof up, the top is clipped. Oh well. Did not want it in the middle of the windscreen which would be ideal. I thought about making a little tower for it....but no...considering moving the camera off center to middle of the little windscreen behind the drivers seat......
Nice write up. It is beyond me that car manufacturers do not pre-wire this.
It is interesting. Some car manufactures (Tesla, BMW, others) are now using the car's camera systems for crash video. I don't have details on the Tesla's but BMW cashes 30 seconds before and after an impact from the car's cameras. This is only logical. The next obvious step is for them to have a "dealer installed option" of a large storage device that can store 24 hours of images or more. Memory is pretty inexpensive these days and a small solid state drive in the will not offset the 'fleets" fuel economy.
