718 Boxster S overheating at the track?
Just as bad. When we were tracking 3.4 987.2s, we'd regularly see 270-280F oil temps. GTB3 cars with 3.8 X51 engines would see over 300F. By adding the billet 2.5 quart deep sump, we'd normally see a 30-40 degree reduction in oil temps on track. We saw similar temps in 981 models and even the newest 718 Boxster Spyder with the new 4.0 MA2 engine (basically a 992 normally aspirated engine).
That I cannot answer. Usually we don't get much feedback from customers, unless they have a problem. In this case the pan solved the limp mode problems on track and have since re-ordered, so it must be working for them!
I'm going to take one for the team, and get a pan before my next track day on December 12. Will report back to everyone what the results are. I got nothing to lose at this point, I've already modded the car enough to where it's out of warranty; might as well get a definite answer for everyone :-)

probably going to do it if simply for the long term viability of the motor. Not running a download but still see oil temps of 252 degrees on a 75 day at Laguna going up the hill after turn 5. Power loss as temps rise is noticeable although no limp mode.
hey B grif, thanks for stepping up! Been in touch with the guys at Tatum. They are running the Softronic ecu download and it was indeed going into limp mode. After installation of both the oil cooler and exhaust wrap, they’ve had no more heat issues with their 718S’s. Sounds really encouraging. Good on you. I’m

No this statement is NOT correct and the cars have NOT gone into limp mode with the flash and actually ran 5 degrees cooler...
They would from the factory go into limp mode on the track stock and then they added the coolers etc and it kept them just below going into limp mode stock . They then added the Softronic flash in which dropped the oil temps down 5 degrees and added power as listed on the web site with NO limp mode. Softronic has not had any of our tuned 718's going into limp mode with or without coolers etc. The coolers though are a good idea and recommended in any racing application regardless.
Should anyone have any questions you can call me or Jerry Tatum.
Best,
Scott

Hello Scott,
My apologies! My info was bad. Definitely didn’t mean to denigrate anyone’s product. On the contrary, stoked to learn how well the Softronic download effectively dealt with the heat. Had been looking at the APR ecu download also and trying to compare the two. These two seem to be the safest software to run.
Again, my apologies.

The problem appears to be with the servo, or the temp sensor, not the turbo itself. See the updates from Suncoast in this same thread.
Probably, I was being a generalist. My S had this issue every time it went to the track and Suncoast's thread was part of my decision to bail on the S and get a GTS. If I were buying a 718 with the intent of some track time I would look at GTS's or Base's knowing the S has this design problem in some instances, haven't heard of the Base being an issue and my GTS has been fine.
