Default Replace tire and brakes at 20k miles?

Hi!
I'm a 718 cayman owner. I just finished annual maintenance and i was told by my dealer that I may need to replace tire and front brake soon.
I'm currently at 18k miles. I didn't do any crazy racing, mostly drive for regular commute, sometimes do some mountain driving for fun.
I was also told by my dealer that for cayman, tier and brake replacement at 20k miles is very common. Is it true? I know it really depends on how I drive and lots of other factors, but i just wanna get a rough idea of that.

Also, they mentioned tire and brake replacement will cost ~$1400 each, so total would be ~$2800. Is it expensive?

Thanks!

You replace the brakes when the computer tells you to.

You measure the tires yourself with this tool and decide when you should replace the tires.

I would say brake wear is very dependent on how an individual drives and the pad material. Not sure what tier refers to? Pads and, if needed, rotor replacement are easy jobs you can do at home, for well less than $400 total, front and rear.

t-i-r-e replacement at 20k miles doesn't seem that crazy. They are summer tires and don't wear like an economy car with all-seasons. The $1400 for tire replacement alone is not a bad price

As for brake replacement for an additional $1400? Are they replacing the rotors at 20k miles?! Now that is a load of ****. I could maybe see replacing just the pads (even then, you can probably wait some more) - but replacing the rotors at 20k miles is a complete waste. They won't need replacing until at least 40k (50k even?) miles. Typically, you replace rotors every other time you replace brake pads.

Agree. Makes a lot more sense if it includes new tires.

I just replaced the tires on our Boxster GTS at 11k miles. No track use.
The rear tires were close to the wear bars, but more important, they were also 5 years old and losing grip. While I enjoyed the oversteer events, others did not.

I think they mean the whole tier replacement?

Well, I'm not sure how they'd replace half of a t-i-r-e (hint: I'm spelling it out like this for a reason... to help you).

Hmm, I’m familiar with tires and tyres. I understand the meaning of tier, just not in this context. 😁
