Default Tires

Well it's time to toss the RE71's and get some PS4's for the car. I was thinking of running 245/35/19 F and 295/35/19 R.

The 295's are the max for a 10" wheel. Does anyone see an issue with this? I played with some size calculators and I think it will be okay.

The 245/35 is fine on the front but I think the rear should be 295/30/20 as the rolling diameter is closer to the stock 265/35/20 than the 295/35.

I think 295 is a squeeze on a 10" rim and ideally you want a 11" rim. It will fit but you will loose a little bit of the cornering performance benefits with the squished side walls.

I'd consider 275 or 285 if you want to be fussy about cornering performance and rim width, otherwise the 295/30s in the 4s will fit ok.

DonR: I have the 19" wheels on my car, not the 20". The rolling diameter is closer with the 295/35 than the 285/35.

Oh sorry, not sure why I missed that!

I think with the higher profile on the 19" wheel/tire you will get even more flex in the side wall with the wider tires thank on the 20". Maybe if you are not tracking and chasing fractions of seconds it doesn't matter.

245/35-19 is only 25.8" tall , wouldn't a 245/40-19 @ 26.7" be a better choice for the front? FWIW, the GT4 fronts 245/35-20 are 26.8”

The 245/40 is taller than the 235/40. I would rather have less sidewall. I may just stick with the stock size in the front and go with 285/35/19 in the rear instead of the 295/35

http://willtheyfit.com offers an actual visualization of the dimensions as well - and also takes into account wheel sizes / offsets.

I think the 285/35/19 is a good compromise on the back given the 10" rim width and the difference to OEM is not massive.

I'd definitely go the 245/40/19 on the front as it is very close in size to the OEM 235/35/20. Only +0.8% difference for circum.

I went 245/35/20 on the front which is +1.1% and I think there is an improvement with front end grip.

I plan on getting dedicated track wheels/tires. Where I live, the PS4S is a good four season tire.

I had already ordered the tires. I also decided to get the wheels powder coated satin black and dropped them off yesterday. They should be back on the car by Thursday. (Yes, I know my garage floor needs refinishing)

Lava Orange might be my favorite Cayman color.

Thank you! I flew all the way across the country for this one, just because it was Lava Orange. It was the only one on the market with the options I wanted, plus the color.
