2020 718 is going to be 6 cylinder again!?
Talked to my dealer yesterday to custom build a 718 base cayman and he told me that the 2020 model is going to be a 6 cylinder again!? He was pretty sure and quite convincing. He told me I can order now one, no rebate but no markup neither. Is that true??

I would be very surprised if Porsche released a Six Cylinder base or S 718 model so close to the just released GT4 and Spyder. They may in a couple of years but not before then. JMO

I thought exactly the same but this guy was 100% sure and even told me that they already have 2 allocations! I read in the german forums something similar but it didn't sound that they want to replace the 4 cylinder, they just wanted to add an additional 6 cylinder 'touring' version to close the gap between the gt4 and the gts. Another indicator that his guy is not right is the fact that the T model has been already introduced which is apparently a 4 cylinder. Was just curious if other people in the forum heard similar rumors. I will call up few of my other sales people in other dealerships to check.

Personally I hope the Cayman returns to a flat six. The 3.4 in my 981S was a screamer. Still miss the sound of tearing silk running past 4K. The T4 is a fantastic motor in almost every respect as well, however.
But will it happen - who knows.

The T Model is indeed a 4 cylinder, but it has not yet been released or even officially announced in the US, which seems odd to me.
Last month, I attended one of the "Porsche Experience" driving events which were staffed by Porsche USA employees. I was asking one of the marketing guys there various questions about Porsche, and he was very responsive and knowledgeable about all things Porsche. When I asked about additional six cylinder 718 models, he smiled and said "no comment." There is definitely something coming, but there just isn't any available info yet on what exactly the 2020 model range will look like.

Sorry but this is total BS. Dealers would have no allocations yet. It's not even announced. You cant order anything.
Not saying it is not coming because it probably is but dealers usually less than info than most of the folks on this forum. Dealerships are not Porsche and are kept in the dark most of the time because they leak stuff.

Would be interested to see what others hear when they try to build a 718 and try to order. I didn't have time today to call around but will call up few other dealerships to see what they are saying.

I heard a couple weeks ago, no new allocations for the US and the care are going to be released as EV's. But then people have posted they have a 2020 allocation/order. We know the sales have fallen off, so it will be interesting what develops. I also head no T for the US, due to the overall bad sales and it not being much different due to our DOT requirements.

The GT4 and Spyder are 2020 models, both 6 cylinders. The allocations for them, here in the US, are not due until fall with spring 2020 delivery. As other posters have said, SA's are not Porsche employees and have no inside knowledge. This one seems particularly uninformed. If and when the T4 is replaced by a NA 6 across the line is anyone's guess. Personally, I would look for another SA.

I have found the following articles which might confirm at least part of the story. The fact that they are driving it already in the public without any masking means that it is already ready to be launched. I still doubt the entire 718 line will be switched to 6 cylinder in 2020. I will call few dealerships today to see if they take orders for 'regular' 718s.

What will be more interesting to me is if we continue seeing these cars now that the GT4/Spyder have been announced.

The German Porsche site shows the new colors (Aventurine Green and Gentian Blue) for the base 718, 718S and 718GTS. No mention of a six cylinder in these models on the site. Given the European manufacturers are scrambling to meet EU standards, your salesman's "insight" appears to be baloney.
