Newbie 718 questions
Hey guys,
I want to lease a new 718 Cayman.
Can anyone share experience custom order a car to lease? Will it be much more expensive than getting something from inventory?
When 2020 production will start? Looks like new 2020 Cayman T is ready but what about base?
When Graphite Blue Metallic was discontinued? I really like this color and bummed to see it's not available anymore. Maybe I should look for a used one in this color...

Can't help with the lease question. GBM was discontinued spring 2018. Any custom order going in now will be 2020 with a fall delivery. The switch over typically happens after the August Holiday shutdown.

Won’t matter to the dealer. They are moving a new unit via lease or purchase. Build the car and target 10% off MSRP. It’s actually better for the dealer as the ordered car is pre-sold.

I think 10% is what the dealer makes, so doubt that any dealer will give 10% off MSRP. The most I heard of is 9%, many would do 6-8%.

There are no more orders opened for any new 718 other than GT4 and Spyder which requires you to be qualified by the dealer for an allocation. My dealer said it is highly possible there won't be any 2020 Cayman 4 cylinder models for the US but before they found this out, they told me they could probably do 5% off on an order. As for the T variant, that was my target so I emailed Porsche USA asking when the release would be and was highly disappointed by their response that there are no plans to bring it to the US. I may be completely wrong, but I suspect Porsche USA dealers have pushed back on the 4 cylinder models due to low sales numbers and thus only carrying GT4 and Spyders which they can grossly mark-up or pick and choose which of their customers can get one and then turn people to whatever $90K+ detuned 4.0L flat 6 GTS or Touring Cayman/Boxster that has been seen running around testing in Europe with the GT4 rear valence and exhaust arrangement. I suppose we'll know for sure in September what the plans are for the US.

You sure about a car being "presold" on an order? I ordered a Macan with a $5K deposit and laws on deposits being refundable or not vary by state. I know of weird configurations that sit with dealers because a customer backed out. When I was in the business, a sale isn't booked until the purchase agreement is signed which doesn't happen until there is a car.
