lol.
Sorry to break it to you OP, your T does not look any different than the other 20+ models out there.
Hell...most people can't tell a 997 vs. 991 vs 992 apart. let alone sub models..

If you truly let the existence of the 718T "let the wind out of your sails" then the only disservice being done is the one you are doing to yourself. Get over it and enjoy the great car you have been anticipating for so long!

And when you see someone in a 718T one day, give them a big thumbs up as a kindred spirit and Porsche enthusiast just like you are.

I chuckle that T owners thought their cars were special lol
its just a base car with a few options

Only GT cars are special kids

As a former owner of a 911T (of the air cooled variety) and a current owner of a GT3 Touring (the first modern “T” = touring) it does not bother me a bit. The more cars with LWBs and performance options the better.

But porsche really missed the mark on colors. No NBM and no new colors (aventrine would have looked great).

More enthusiast cars will always benefit this community. If this machine can get a hundred wealthy young people out of used 997s and into new MT cars, it's a win for car enthusiasm.

I loved this! I wonder where is the OP's neighborhood...

OP, don't you know that there is a loop in the car's software, which, when another newer model gets introduced, it cuts 73 HP from the output and adds 2.3 sec from 0-60? This converts the previous model roughly to the level of a KIA.

Exclusivity? Don't buy in the Porsche Ocean... There, all is about performance and handling. If you want exclusivity buy a Bentley Mulsanne...

I like the T and basically optioned my car (a 2018 CS) along this line. Mine is about a year old and predates availability of the GTS and T. It's my weekend toy for spirited driving and light track use, so I went for more sport options and less luxury/convenience. Optioning an S this way got me a very similar car to a T but with the 2.5 L and the extra punch. If I were buying now, I'd look at the T. Very few of us (and certainly not me) come close to using all those ponies. Can't be done on public roads and only shaves a second or two off lap times.

I don't get why the T concept (718 or 991.2) garners either praise or derision on forums. They're just option packages for the most part (exception being door handles and glass). That's the beauty of Porsche. You can make your car a leather clad, luxurious DD or as pure a sports car as can be had in 2018. Both go like a bat out of hell.

+1

Τhe first car I test-drove was a 2018 Carrera T (stick). I wanted to drive a 911 with PDK, but the (indifferent? lazy?) salesman pointed (indiferrently) at a base Cayman parked right in front.

'Try this one he said, it doesn't make any difference!...'

In 10 min, all my preconceived notions of 47 years about buying a 911 stick evaporated (the dream was a 68 911 S, I nurtured it for 47 years, after I got my DL). I drove sticks all my life, except a 740 iL which didn't come with stick and another one (Mercedes in 2001-07 because I had to).

The last comparison was a Carrera 4 PDK vs 718 S PDK. I drove away the 718S. Best driver's car I ever had. Interestingly, the base Cayman of the first test drive was not a slouch either. So much so, that I called back to ask whether it was a CS (nope). I wouldn't shy away from a 718 T because of the base engine. It is a driver's sports car.

I’m very excited by the 718T. I have an actual race car so more interested in very engaging street car and the T pushes all the buttons while being ~$25k less than a GTS.

$25K?? Maybe $15k ( without options) , but I don't see $25K. Add in some options and the % difference will be even less, IMO. It'll be cheaper but not earth shattering. The T interior/deviated stitching alone will probably be 3-6K option. Just my guess.

I just wish that the 718T mirrored the same special features as the Carrera T. (Short shifter and gear ratios, lightweight glass, less sound insulation are key ones at the top of the head that are missing from the 718) Stateside, the radio delete isn’t possible... making that one less feature.

Seems more a visual option than a true lighter advantage? Maybe I’m wrong? To think it was going to be a 911 concept only is funny.

If your disturbed by Porsche doing what Porsche does you have a charmed life. Buy the car you love and don't worry about the rest.

I was probably being optimistic. If the price diff to a GTS is only $15k it would be tough to justify the Cayman T.
