Not a lot to sink your teeth into. Lots of talk of the wonders of PDK and the merits/value of the GTS package. The article says fewer than 1 in 10 Caymans or Boxsters worldwide are sold with MT.
Love this line:
"No matter what model you're looking at, the siren song of the Porsche configurator is ready to lure you onto the rocks of financial ruin."
Ain't that the truth!

"......fewer than one in 10 Caymans or Boxsters worldwide are sold with a stick—not enough to justify investment in beefing up the manual to cope with more torque."
That's an alarming statistic! Very surprised by it. MT take-rate seems lower than 911s'. Boxster/Cayman supposed to be the choice of sporting enthusiasts! On the other hand, the take-rate with GT3 seems about 30%.
"......a remarkable 35 percent of those who bought the previous-generation (981) Cayman GTS in the States ordered one with a stick shift, bucking the global trend. Porsche Cars North America expects a similar take rate with the 718 version.."
Now, this is an encouraging news! If I were to do a speculative analysis, the US might be flying the flag for MT single-handedly! We are probably the reason why MT is still alive! I applaud Porsche (and, other manufacturers who still offer one) for continuing to spend money, though their margin (on MT-specific development and ROI) could be coming down. I hope MT will continue to be around until the days of hybrid and electric.

No idea. I suspect 981's transmission is stout enough to support added (projected) power/torque; might need subtle tweaks. I might even speculate that it could from GT3, if the detuned 4.0 comes to fruition. Will be easier to transplant the whole powertrain. If that happens, it would rock, as the GT-developed MT is kick-***!

I recently picked up an 18 Cayman GTS. I also own a 17 GT350. Talk about a disparity of sound out the back, the Shelby is glorious while the Cayman is at times Subaru like. The Cayman has the sport exhaust and in sport mode it actually sounds decent. The little four banger handles better than the Shelby, rides better, is more comfortable and is pretty sexy looking. The Shelby corners beautifully, but on marginal roads the wide 295 front tires cause pretty bad tramlining. Same roads in the little Cayman suffer no such anomaly. I'm enamored with the little Porsche, it's my first, but likely not the last I'll own.
The torque and lack of Turbo lag is quite impressive. The Cayman GTS feels every bit as fast as my Shelby, just sounds different.

Thanks for your comparison between the GT350 and the Cayman GTS. I have a Camaro ZL1 as my track car but have ordered a Cayman GTS that hopefully will arrive during the summer. If you plan to track your CGTS, let us know what you thought after driving it on track.
