OK, the only reason I started this thread is to make Phil feel better!
The last few days, the starter has been rather sluggish to turn over when I start the car, so I figured the battery was on its last leg (or cell). It is the original Porsche battery so that makes about 4 years old.
I went up to Autozone ant they checked it out. The guy at Autozone said the message on the battery tester said to charge the battery and then test it again. He then wanted to check see it the alternator was working properly. Well, I tried to start the car, and the starter would not turn over. I guess the "testing" drained the last bit of cranking power out of the battery. He jump-started the car to get it running and the alternator checked out fine.
A new battery was installed, but it didn't fit. Autozone's computer database lists the Duralast 49-DL battery as the correct one for the Porsche, but it is about 1" too long and the hold down bracket can not be bolted into the tray because the battery covers the bolt hole.![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
I told him that many on THE Porsche Forum (obviously I was referencing Rennlist) said the Duralast 48-DL (vented) was the correct battery. Out comes the wrong battery and in goes the correct one. It is about 1" to 1-1/2" shorter than the OEM battery, but that is OK, because there are two alternate bolt holes in the battery tray to accommodate shorter batteries. Gotta love Porsche engineering!
So Phil, I had to replace my battery too, so that should make you feel better. Just don't think about the fact that my battery was over 4 years old and lived a full and useful life. Your battery, on the other hand, was only 2 years old and died from internal complications set on by years of neglect, loneliness, and a feeling of uselessness. <Tim thinks to himself> I’ll bet Phil thought I was really trying to make him feel better about having to replace his sulfated battery! <hee hee>
The battery was just under $80. Hopefully, this thread will help others in the future.

OK, Tim let me get this straight. You replaced your battery at Autozone for $80 and I paid $200 for an OEM battery that will probably last 2 years less than yours, and I should feel better??? I'm glad you helped others on the board, which you did.
