Default Cabriolet in wide body?

Does the cabriolet come in a wide body version or do I have to get a C2S or C4S coupe to get a wide body car?

The cabrio officially never came out in a wide body version.

You must go C2S or C4S, if you have to have widebody.

There is an old rennlist/internet tale of Beverly Hills Porsche having some done (10 is the number I am thinking of) from the factory - rare as hen's teeth but occasionally up for sale. The factory would do whatever you wanted if your check cleared.

That is correct. They were a batch special order by the dealer. It was sort of a "Group Buy" that the dealer organized for their customers. Porsche said that if they could commit to 10, they'd build it, and they did (14 of them).

There was one for sale last year on the web. Don't remember if it was Truespeed that had it. They wanted close to $120K for it IIRC.

From the Wikipedia web site:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche...urbo_Cabriolet

"Turbo Cabriolet
After the 3.3 liter G-model Turbo convertible (1987-89), Porsche never officially offered an air-cooled Turbo convertible again. However, in 1995 14 993 Turbo Cabriolets were sold before the introduction of the 993 Turbo coupe. They featured the 360 hp (DIN) single-turbo engine of the 964 Turbo 3.6, a 5-speed manual transmission and the wing of the 964 Turbo 3.6. This required a premium of DM 89,500 (or plus 62%) over the standard 993 Cabriolet´s price."

Here is a photo of a Widebody Cab that I took at the last NHIS DE.
The owner was a great guy but I can't remember his name.
My NB Cab car is just in front of the Turbo Cab.
They are both MY95 Cabs with 50K. The owner told me that he
bought the car new and a couple years ago had "S" quarters added.
EPE in Natick MA did the Turbo motor swap. A sweet looking Cab.

Here is the original article from Car & Driver. Sorry for the crappy scan
but it should not be a problem with the copyright policy since you can't read it!

The single Turbo cabrio's are not the ones that are rumoured from the BH dealerhip. Furthermore they were not wide bodies. While the single turbo cars have been verified original from the company, the BH "widebodies" have not been verified to exist in the first place and even if they do it is said that Porsche did not built them...

I think Jerry's Speedster is the one mentioned here:

Speedster
In Porsche terms, 'Speedster' stands for a Convertible with lowered roof and windshield and a rather spartanic interior.

In contrast ot the G-model and the 964, Porsche never officially released a 993 Speedster. However, two were built by the factory: a dark green Speedster equipped with Tiptronic S and 17 inch wheels for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche (his 60th anniversary) in 1995 and another wide-body, silver Speedster with manual transmission and 18 inch wheels for an American customer in 1998. A third unit, a converted 964 Speedster, had been built in 1994 by the factory for a Belgian customer.

thanks to you & cabrio993, this thread alone is raising my respect for Wikipedia. I appreciate anywhere there's eccentric, accurate 993 info, especially for what's arguably the best-looking 993 ever -- the topless widebody factory-built 993
