Default Value of '55 Continental engine?

May have stumbled upon a 1955 356 "Continental" engine and transmission.
I don't know anything about them (I like to cool off with water) so I am wondering if it has any decent value.

No car to be found or other history at the moment. Only think it's a Continental because the current owner says so.
No pics at the moment but will try to get some for verification.

$2,000- $5000 on the engine depending if it's complete, working, etc.

Trans around the same.

Now if you find the owner with the car.... name your price.

Matching numbers probably ads 15-20% to cars value. And markedly increases the number of individuals interested as many will only buy numbers matching. If I owned the car I would find a way to make it happen. That said proof that they belong to the body as delivered from the factory just got harder. Porsche recently dropped it's COA program.

Go to this link to see if the engine number corresponds to the correct build date:

https://www.stoddard.com/Werkstatte/bodyengineid/

Once
you have verified, post the info on 356 Registry.

Good luck and a fine find you have.

Continentals were from 1955. There isn't any information that I have that will tell you that it was a continental or not. But to check if its from a 1955 car it should fall into one of the ranges below.
1955 Coupe #'s 34120 - 35790, and 50128 - 50135
1955 Cabriolet #'s 41049 - 41999 and 50128 - 50135

If you need any more info feel free to PM me.
The seller may be able to provide you with more info. If they believe it is from a Continental then they should be able to provide their reasoning. Like a picture of the car it came out of, and why it came out... Like others have mentioned its worth more to the person who has the body.

"Continental" was a body badge, not an engine. Porsche introduced it at the urging of Max Hoffman, the famous importer, and dropped it after Ford made a stink. He thought it would be good for marketing. Later cars were badged "European". The last cars with the European badge were built in January of 1956- A models.

Not much of a premium, if any, attached to Continental or European models. Not so long ago, pre A cars were mostly ignored- the values were low. No longer true.

Correct. I was just listing the numbers that would correlate to the 55 body so that he could tell if it was an engine from a Continental.

Might check out these threads

http://forum.porsche356registry.org/...hp?f=1&t=38835

http://forum.porsche356registry.org/...hp?f=1&t=13887

And could search here too

https://porsche356registry.org/cars

(note, model years are not precise with US titling- e.g. a car titled as a 1955 might actually be a 1954, etc.)
