What kind of price would you think is a fair deal on attached? No affiliation, looking for myself.

Everything at Canepa is very expensive. You should join the 356 Registry. Great source of information and it has a classified section. You can also try European Collectables for a 356. Make sure you see the car in person, have a PPI done by a knowledgeable person and look for rust!!
Good luck.

That's about what I was thinking also, though seeing Canepa was the restorer and seller I'm not surprised to see them asking a lot more, but I'd say $185K is pretty off the charts. However, a true first class nut and bolt restoration could run $100-150K at the pricier shops.

In what is posted above, I didn't see mention that Canepa did the restoration. I am not sure that is a big plus if they did.

They are not known for the quality of their work with 356's. Maybe they don't even restore them. I don't know. That is an absolutely top-of-the-market asking price, so I would want an absolutely top-notch specialist to have done the work. Metal finish with lead and so on. Patereks, Tim Herman, Willhoit, The Air Cooled Guys, etc.

Canepa is known in the category of 1st tier of 356 restorers. There are certainly your Manhattan Trophy quality restorers in the east, and Willhoit and others in southern CA are highly regarded; indeed, each region in the US has their own top-notch specialists. I would count Canepa in amongst those in Northern CA. I may be somewhat biased, being in the neighborhood, but I've toured the facilities, seen several of the 356es he has had in bare metal and various stages of restoration. I can find no criticism with the work, the parts sourced, the knowledge of his team. No mistake, they do other marques as well--I saw a Pebble Beach bound Duesy in bare metal last year, and an astounding Cobra (the list goes on)--but Canepa does know his Porsches.

That said, this is a T6B Super non-sunroof. Which while a nice car, isn't in the category of highest-demand 356es. Usually for top money you'd want an interesting story, some unique feature or owner provenance. As long as I'm armchair-ing, I wonder why, at this price, they wouldn't add a period 1st class radio--something which wouldn't show on the Kardex as a dealer install but would add value. But now I'm picking nits.

All in all, we go back to the basic: the market is the market. Canepa (or their consigner) can ask what they want. At this asking price, you also have to ask what else is out there--this (year, features) car, and at this price. They'd all better be perfect within a couple of max concours points of each other. I suspect that true interest at this level starts at the price-level of recent market trades, ends at the seller's asking price, and settles in about the middle.

However, with The Week in Monterey coming up, it wouldn't surprise me if they hold to their price, nor would it surprise me if they were to get it with all the folk coming to the area. In Monterey you get "investors" as well as "collectors" as well as "car guys". What I have no doubt about is that the upcoming rounds of Monterey auctions will raise the bar even higher on #1 and #2 grade 356es. Will this car be seen as a bargain in two years? Probably not, if bought and driven. If containered and brought out for shows and eventually for auction, it may well be.
