Here is Dean Polopolus's website that will help to end the "its a 911 case cut down to 4 cylinders" nonsense. He manufactures his own case, crank and cams. The Polo motor really is the ultimate choice for the speedy needy 356er.

Brett Johnson said it , when generalizing about the different series;
The A 's, are the "Pretty Ones".
He's probably right, but I love the funk factor of the earlier car's.
I love your pre A, (and that Polo motor makes it really rock!) I own a B, but I voted for the A. The A 's really do have great styling. Gov't regulations were responsible for part of the B 's design.
The split windshields are my personal favorites though.

I should have put a spot for bent window and split..
Yes Phil, The As are really pretty but there is something about the bent window and the bumpers on the pre A that has always done it for me..................M Superior.. I can't believe you sold that Conti-coupe..mercy that would be a tough one to get over.

Don't get me started......
I can't believe we sold it either, but we were offered way more than we could turn down. The day we sold "Max" the phone rang and it was our friend that lives in New York. We had told her years before that if she ever wanted to sell her Speedster to please let us know. She didn't know we had just sold Max. So she says the Speedster is yours if you are interested!
Duh.....
So we wouldn't have been able to buy the Speedster if we didn't sell Max.

So..where is this speedster that Max paid for?
Jo Anne, Glad I'm not the only one who has named a car or two. My Pre-A is named Rita, lol... as in Hayworth..

Alwin Springer??
JoAnne..I saw him listed in friends of your race team.. I worked for him and the other two Germans at Andial Road and Racing, when I was a much younger teenaged bonehead..around 1980-1983. Arnold, Dieter and Alwin were an interesting threesome to work for lol...oh the stories I could tell. And that is also where I fell so hard for Porsche.

Love my C coupe...
If I wanted more power, there is a guy in daytona that makes an adapter that will let you put a harley engine in the back of a 356 or VW bug (200mm clutch required).
Heck, go all custom and at least keep it Porsche designed and put a v-rod motor in

Steve Jensen, Not sure what your point is..??
I've had bone stock matching numbers 356 cars, twin plugged 356s with nickies and tall gears. The point is for me...I now have the motor that I feel Porsche should have made but never did and I stuck it in my favorite Porsche body design. And it is a Porsche motor in my opinion, because it is their awesome design and engineering that make it what it is, minus 2 cylinders of course. BTW, mine has Porsche GT class titanium rods which really won't fit in another motor other than a 911..hmm..so the Polo is more of an inlaw than an outlaw. Also.. it is manufactured to a level way beyond any Harley. And also, more power was not the only goal for me. I understand not everyone GETS IT, but let me tell you, I sure as heck did after riding in a Polo motored car and afterwards, I had to have one for my own.

Race Car
I couldn't agree more GuyD. The polo is really nice. As for the Harley motor...waste of time. Aside of the aweful noise, I can't imagine them making power given the gears of a 356. I'm sure it would move around, but may not be a lot of fun. Any type2 VW motor can be warmed over for a power boost and "fits" nicely.
