Default Shop in Seattle/Tacoma Area for rebuild?

Hi all,
I've got a friend of a friend who has a 356. He is looking for a shop that is familiar with and has a good reputation to do an engine rebuild for his 356 (Seattle/Tacoma). I don't have specific's on the year or model just yet. I know Walker's in Seattle does 914's and 911's..or at least did. Any recommendations out there..

thanks in advance,

I've had many recommendations for Akers...I have also forwarded recommendations for Walkers shop....not sure on Gerber..I do know they do 911's and have a penchant for expensive work...(former Paul Weir guys)..good work but expensive.

I guess the next question would be...what exactly is unique about a 356 motor?..I am just assuming its a 4 cyl boxer setup..air cooled..very beatlesq????No idea...

Thanks for the replies .....

There really isn't alot special about them. Just a VW typ III motor. Having used to work with most of the indy shops out there. in the Seattle area, they all do excellent work, Akers however has many years wrenching on 356's and had knows where to get most of the parts needed without long wait times. Plus he holds his annual Show and Shine and swap met every year so no shortage on parts

Although 356 engines are certainly very similar to VW engines, they are NOT VW engines.

Four cylinder 914's and 912E's did use VW engines, Type IV.
