Amen Brother,

I am going to do it right, thats the main reason it needs it now, the last repaint years ago had a horrible prep job. I'm having the whole car stripped to the bare metal and starting from there.

Here's a few pictures of how the paint looks up close, you can see all the spider cracks and a little surface rust. Here's also a shot of the 356's garage brothers...a 1973 Datsun 240Z that I just finished "refurbishing" and a 1971 Triumph TR6. The same folks that prepped and painted the Z will be doing the 356. The only down side is the time....don't get me wrong they do a great job, but it takes months and I'm very impatient....

I'm going to drop it off next week, and then hopefully around March or April I'll have it back. In the meantime it will give me a chance to get all the exterior trim work repaired/replaced.

Take care all.

Ok, that does need a repaint. I guess I missed where it had been repainted. I did the bare metal repaint on mine and it didn't have the correct prep either because it needs it's 4th paint job since I got it. And it has always been garaged.

First of all, great story! I'm pleased to hear that these finds are still out there. I loved reading Tom Cotter's Cobra in the Barn, a series of barn find stories. But I've also recently read Jim Schrager's Buying, Driving, and Enjoying the Porsche 356 and his chapter on wild goose chases emphasizes how difficult it can be to find a decent car. So, congrats on your wonderful find.

While my Porsche is a '78 SC, I've been lurking on the 356 and 912 forums because these older P cars intrigue me. My other fun cars are '71 240Z and a '91 Miata, so, not only am I impressed with the 356, but with it's stablemates as well. I'll be watching for updates on the 356 as you post them.

One last thing - about the time required to do the paint and your self-professed impatience; if they do as nice a job on the 356 as it appears was done on the Z, it looks like it will be worth the wait!

Congrats! My C was a "driveway find" in Knoxville as well. Have you checked in with Don at Air Cooled Classics? He did the refurbishing of my C (paint, interior, engine/trans). Good guy.
Here is my girl

Thanks guys,

I saw Don and Skip last week at Air cooled classics, your right they are great guys. Don has an awsome 356 cab completely restored...yours for only $80k. I would love to have it.......Also, Beautiful 356 you have there.

Yes, I'm a purist.......I would love to go Fjord Green but I cant do it.....I also sent in for the 356 registery, for some reason when I tried to join on-line my computer kept telling me it was "unsecure" for the payment options, so i'm doing it via snail mail.

brg....thanks for the heads up on the books, I just got "cobra in the barn" but hadn't heard of the other one.

Tell Don (from Burke and Bill Bell) that the old C is doing well. Wish I had a Don down here in FL. East coast blues....

GREAT find! I look forward to seeing the pics of the car when you get it back. Are you planning on attending the PCA Parade this summer? I would love to see the car there! Also, my Dad just sold his '71 240 Z that he just sold. He bought it new and it was hard to let go to say the least.

Where is the parade this Summer? I was thinking of going to PA in September, but not 100% sure yet.
